The IRC in Salt Lake City Health Programs promote physical and psychosocial wellbeing by ensuring access to healthcare services and providing culturally appropriate, strength-based, educational programming. The Mental Health Program in Salt Lake City works to improve the mental and emotional wellbeing outcomes for refugee and immigrant families and individuals in order to encourage their pathway toward healing, growth and thriving after their resettlement in the United States. The program works with partner organizations and across the IRC network to provide mental and emotional assessment, evaluate and provide access to culturally competent care, and support refugee and immigrant communities in understanding and working toward wellness.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: The Refugee Mental Health internship will provide individual(s) with an opportunity to gain experience in mental health screening procedures, data collection and tracking, and mental health referral protocols. The individual(s) will provide direct support to the Mental Health Program Coordinator in identifying clients in need of services and supporting clients accessing treatment. They will engage in program development and improvement to support mental and emotional wellbeing of refugee and immigrant families and individuals, and work to reduce stigma around mental health within these communities. This position will be partially remote, and will have options for COVID-safe client engagement.

COMMITMENT: 4 months + starting May 2021, 15-20 hours per week
