Background
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the lead development agency of the United Nations, connecting countries to a vast network of global knowledge, experience and technical and financial resources. Under the overall guidance of the Operations Analyst and direct supervision of the Operations Associate, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the Resident Representative, high-ranking UN/UNDP officials, country office (CO) colleagues and visitors ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-orient approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Upon request of the supervisor, the Driver can be also required to provide driving services to the operations and programme staff in the CO, Consultants and Experts and UN staff on mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions:

1. Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the transport of UNDP Resident Representative, other high-ranking officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
2. Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
3. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
4. Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents
5. Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
6. Provides administrative and logistical support as follows:
- Assist in processing photocopies, document scanning and filing as required;
- Registration and dispatch of outgoing communications, including pouch and follow-up distribution. Prepares the summary of enclosure forms and necessary documents and maintains the file on pouches received to ensure that all bags are accounted for;
- Assist in the administrative support to organization of CO events and functions as necessary;
- Provides assistance with client reception (greeting VIP clients and visitors as needed);
- Assist with arrangements for security clearances when required;
- Assist with periodic checks of CO entrances and exits as per Fire Safety Guidelines.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Secondary Education. Valid Driver’s License.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ work experience as a driver; safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.
- Experience with an international organization is an asset.
- Ability to work with computer and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages.
Language Requirements:
Proficiency in English. Working knowledge of other UN language desirable.
