Background:

The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (Office) is an OSCE field operation based in Dushanbe. The the Office is involved in a wide range of activities, including arms control, counter-terrorism and border management projects, economic development and environmental protection and education, water security policy development, disaster risk reduction, good governance, combating trafficking in human beings, gender equality, human rights, media development and legal reform initiatives.

The Office implements its activities in all three dimensions within the OSCE’s comprehensive and co-operative approach to security. With a special emphasis on the Central Asia region, it assists Tajikistan in tackling problems and threats to security and supports conflict prevention and crisis management measures. It also assists in strengthening democratic political institutions, the police service, rule of law and respect for human rights.

The daily work of communications and media relations lies with the Press and Public Information Section (PPIS) of the Office in Dushanbe. The PPIS is responsible to engage with the Host Country, OSCE participating States, international and national stakeholders utilizing a variety of tradition and new media to contribute to the fulfilment of the Office’s Mandate and raise awareness of target audience about the OSCE’s activities in Tajikistan.

Tasks and Responsibilities:


The selected intern will have the opportunity to gain an overview and familiarize themselves with approaches and ways of communication and media relations work carried in the international organization. Under the overall supervision of Senior Public Information Assistant, the intern will be requested to carry out the following duties:

  1. Assist in research and analyses of online media landscape and advise on the best ways to publicize visibility materials;
  2. Assist in updating and maintaining Office website and Facebook page with new materials and content;
  3. Contribute to developing electronic templates for communications activity planning and monitoring; 
  4. Contribute to carrying out monitoring of media mentions of the Office’s name and news published in the traditional and online media;
  5. Contribute to reviewing and drafting technical specifications documents for development of audio-visual materials and promotional items;
  6. Assist in preparing and raising purchase requisition for services and products to be requested by the PPIS;
  7. Assist in drafting and translating publicity materials;
  8. Assist in taking photos and videos during the Office events and official visits;
  9. Perform other internship-related duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:

 

  • Be at least 19 years old and have completed two years of full-time studies from an accredited institution or have completed a first or advanced degree in a field relevant to the OSCE’s mandate no longer than two years ago by  the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice;
  • Strong analytical, research and drafting skills;
  • Good organizational skills with ability to process and classify information quickly and efficiently;
  • Previous experience in working for international organizations/internships or in a diplomatic service, as well as knowledge of xxx issues would be an asset;
  • Excellent IT knowledge, familiarity with Microsoft Office and Internet applications;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
  • Professional fluency in English with excellent communication (both oral and written) skills; professional fluency in Russian would be an asset;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.

 

Remuneration

The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay nor reimburse travel expenses.

The selected intern may participate in the group health insurance scheme at his/her own expense, but the OSCE will cover life and accident/disability insurance. If the intern opts to arrange his/her own medical coverage, he/she shall provide evidence of medical coverage for the duty station he/she applies to, and for any eventual duty trip destinations.

The internship does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
