WHO JPO - Technical Officer (Health and Migration)
- Understand the mandate, functioning and scope of WHO at the three levels - Participating in staff orientation training, taking active part in Governing Bodies activities as appropriate (i.e., when the supervisor is attending as well), accompanying supervisor to country missions as needed.
- Build and hone leadership and management skills - Participation in training workshops as they arise; leadership of at least two major pieces of work per year, such as progress reports;
- Build collaborative and rewarding professional relationships and networks, on intramural and extramural level - Through activities listed above, as well as through mentorship by first level supervisor and other WHO staff.
- Develop operational knowledge in the area of migration and public health - Through country assessments, systematic literature reviews and active participation in technical meetings
- Structured guidance provided by the supervisor, especially in the beginning of the assignment, with the purpose of gradually increasing the responsibilities of the JPO
- Establishment of a work plan, with clear key results
- Effective supervision through knowledge sharing and performance/development feedback throughout the assignment
- Easy access to the supervisor
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support country-focused work within the operational range of the GAP and GPW13 PHM workplan by contributing to the formulation, implementation and monitoring of WHO PHM workplan activities carried out by regions and in Member States.
- Assist the development of partnerships and networks with international, regional and national stakeholders, research institutes and policy-makers to identify collaborative actions on health and migration.
- Support partnership dialogue with health and non-health institutional and non-institutional players in the area of health and migration by supporting PHM to organize meetings, producing relevant documentation and reports and managing e-based information sharing platforms;
- Compile and review inputs on policy, humanitarian, gender and economic aspects of governance for health and migration in order to inform policy discussion with health and non-health stakeholders;
- Draft progress reports and other technical communication (e.g. donor reports, annual reports, briefing notes);
- Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the supervisor.
- The draft of at least two progress reports on health and migration and an understanding of country focused assessments on health and migration.
- The implementation of recommendations from technical meetings in the area of health and migration.
- The candidate is expected to demonstrate and be guided by WHO competencies; specifically:

Required Skills and Experience
- Master’s Degree or equivalent in public health, global health,political science, international relations or international development.
- Minimum: At least two years of experience in the area of public health and/or refugee and migrant health.
- Desirable: International professional experience in refugee and migrant health. Experience working with countries.
Other skills required for the assignment:
- Some knowledge of the public health aspects of migration.
- Good organizational and analytical skills combined with the ability to multi-task and produce accurate results under pressure.
- Ability to write and synthesize information in a clear and concise manner.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including respecting and promoting individual and cultural differences.
- Tact, diplomacy and courtesy.
- Computer literacy.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Full proficiency in Korean and English:
- Applicants should submit a minimum of (1) I BT TOEFL score of 100 (or PBT TOEFL 600 and above)
- or (2) NEW TEPS score of 430 or IELTS 7 or (4) TOEIC 900
- TOEFL ‘MyBest Scores’ will not be accepted
- Desirable: Working knowledge of another WHO language
