Academic Integration AmeriCorps
The AmeriCorps position is a one year, full time volunteer position. This position offers a living stipend, benefits, and upon completion an education stipend.
Job Overview/Summary: The
Academic Support AmeriCorps will work alongside the case management team to
build capacity to better support school aged refugee children in grades K-12 to
integrate into the US school system. The AmeriCorps will act as a liaison
between AISD newcomer centers and the IRC, develop training curriculum and
develop processes and structures for long term support.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
include but are not limited to:
Work with the education team to enroll school aged children into AISD
Develop a parent focused training to the US education system and teach this training monthly
Complete an individualized service plan for each school aged child, identifying barriers and referrals needed
Host monthly meetings for families to learn about culture, the US school system and community
Set up monthly meetings with various school district officials
Lead weekly Middle School student groups
Connect elementary school children with external organizations such as Boys & Girls Club, Alliance for Women & Children and Big Brothers, big sisters.
Work with the case work supervisors on developing protocols for increased communication and collaboration with AISD
Evaluate current services to identify gaps in education related service and research potential solutions and program design.
Research successful strategies to ensure refugee students integrate into the US school systems
Other duties as required.
