The Office of the Chief Legal  Counsel is accountable to provide legal guidance and support to the entire organisation world-wide, working closely with the United Nations Secretariat’s Office of Legal Affairs and specialised outside counsel as appropriate. The work of the Office covers a full range of matters from commercial contracts (of varying size and complexity), partnership arrangements, contribution agreements, and matters of a purely public international law nature.

How can you make a difference?

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Preparing partnership agreements, under supervision, and following up on negotiations.
  • Preparing and advising on supply division and procurement contracts, under supervision, and following up on negotiations.
  • Assisting with respect to data privacy implementation, including preparation of privacy statements and terms of use for web and mobile platforms.
  • Preparation of legal memoranda assessing particular matters referred to the Office and proposing strategies and guidance to colleagues.
  • Assisting as needed in dealings with colleagues in the Organisation, under the supervision of a legal professional in the Office.

The incumbent should:

•           Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a programme at the Masters level in law.

•           Fluency in English and another UN language required.  Knowledge of one other UN working language an advantage.
