Spring 2022 Employment Program Intern

The Employment Program Intern provides trauma-informed employment services to refugees and other qualified immigrants to support a positive resettlement experience and the achievement of client self-sufficiency and economic empowerment. This intern will work closely with IRC Employment Specialists to accomplish a variety of employment-related activities including, but not limited to, developing resumes, attending job trainings and interviews, delivering and tracking employment documentation, and assisting refugees and Afghan evacuees as they learn public transportation routes and schedules. Interns also assist in the organization and maintenance of client case files and other administrative tasks as assigned. Duties include application and onboarding assistance, providing transportation to interviews and trainings, data entry, and other administrative tasks. Personal vehicle access and travel within Leon County is required within project needs.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Application Assistance
    • Assist clients to complete job applications, including online, email, or paper applications.
    • Assist clients with case management support to complement employment services, as needed, including completing applications for a range of benefits and assistance programs (for example, unemployment insurance, temporary disability insurance, food assistance/SNAP benefits, Medicaid, rent assistance, affordable housing programs, etc.)
  • Interview Assistance
    • Use personal, insured vehicle and/or public transportation (where available) to travel and transport clients as needed throughout the job-search process.
    • If applicable, provide interpretation for the Employment Specialist and Employment Resource Specialist, as needed.
  • Assessment Support
    • Conduct employer outreach by phone or in-person to complete employment assessments and gather information on new job placements.
    • Build and maintain ongoing employer relationships by addressing and troubleshooting problem areas related to employer-specific labor shortages and client-specific issues such as transportation, communication, and time management.
  • Organizational/Administrative Assistance
    •  Help build and manage internal systems, write case notes, work on case file management, file receipts and reimbursements, hiring paperwork, etc.
    • Provide occasional coverage for the IRC office main phone line, directing messages to the appropriate staff member.
  • Other duties as assigned.
