Public Partnerships Volunteer, Public Partnerships Division - 4 months

Reporting to the Public Partnerships Manager for France, Italy, Spain, Holy See, Monaco and Greece (FISHS) in the Europe Team, The Public Partnerships volunteer will support external engagement through internal mapping and preparation of UNICEF’s growing partnership with UNICEF Partners/clients/Stakeholders.

The Division of Public Partnerships (PPD) works to strengthen UNICEF's position as a partner of choice for children's rights among governments and public actors around the world. The division is doing this by positioning children's rights in the intergovernmental and multilateral fora and engaging with governments and public institutions as resource, policy and programme partners. A key premise for PPD is that the engagement with countries should be holistic based on multiple aspects of partnerships, including policy advocacy and resource mobilization.

How can you make a difference?

Reporting to the Public Partnerships Manager for France, Italy, Spain, Holy See, Monaco and Greece (FISHS) in the Europe Team, the Public Partnerships volunteer will support external engagement through internal mapping and preparation of UNICEF’s growing partnership with UNICEF Partners/clients/Stakeholders.

Together with the Division of Communication (leading on Faith Based Dialogue) as well as C4D, the Public Partnerships Division believes there is great potential in furthering work on humanitarian access in complex emergencies, and its continued support in advocacy efforts around the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key Expected Results

The volunteer would support in reaching out and gathering information on the following initiatives:

1. Assist in following up with relevant dicasteries in sharing information, organizing briefings, and exploring requests from field offices related to programming and advocacy requests to help identify the best interlocutors. 
   
   
2. Follow-up and explore opportunities for partnership around child labour. Support convening experts and colleagues from both sides on issues.
   
   
3. Support UNICEF’s response to specific requests for engagement from the partners as they arise, including providing briefings/overviews of UNICEF’s relations with the UNICEF partners in the context of faith based philanthropy support to PFP/Natcoms by participating in working group meetings.

Modus Operandi

• Co-creation and participative approach: the volunteer comes with his/her own wealth of information and experience, which is of great value to UNICEF. To ensure this is harnessed action on the assignment should be discussed at every step, and the volunteer should feel free to propose approaches and directions for the team to move.
  
  
• Maintain regular correspondence with colleagues across UNICEF, the Observer Mission, the Dicastery, and the Pontifical Academy.
  
  
• The assignment may be extended based on the volunteer’s interest and availability.

This position is ONLY open to US NATIONALS and/or HOLDERS OF US WORK PERMIT - duty station New York/Washington D.C, with remote work being an option. Special preference will be given to UNICEF retirees.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in one of the following fields: international relations, political science, communications, international development, or another relevant technical field or:  *In lieu of advanced degree, 8 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public affairs, programme management, planning, or project management in programmes or emergencies related activities, resource mobilization, external relations, or other relevant field. 
  
  
• A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public affairs, programme management, planning, or project management in programmes or emergencies related activities, resource mobilization, external relations, or other relevant area.
  
  
• Experience with UNICEF or any other UN organization would be a great asset.
  
  
  
• An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in international relations, political science, communications, international development, or another relevant technical field.   *Or in lieu of advanced university degree, 8 years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public affairs, programme management, planning, or project management in programmes or emergencies related activities, resource mobilization, external relations.
  
  
• A minimum 5 years of Professional relevant experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public affairs, programme management, planning, or project management in programmes or emergencies related activities, resource mobilization, external relations, or other relevant area. 
  
  
• UNICEF retirees will be given special preference. 
  
  
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
  
  

Duration: 1 February 2022 – 1 June 2022 (4 months, with possible extension)

Duty Station: New York/Washington D.C./Remote work arrangement.


Salary/Payment: 

This is a volunteer consultancy.  Salary will be $1.00.  There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the consultancy.
