Description

Telecommunication Systems Engineer in the Ground or Space Segment Section, Technologies & Products Division, Telecom Technologies, Product & Systems Department, in the Directorate of Telecommunications & Integrated Applications.


You report to the Head of the Ground or Space Segment Section and are responsible for managing telecommunication ground, system or space segment technology development activities.

Duties

  • Initiating, monitoring and controlling, in collaboration with the Procurement Department, the Space Systems for Safety and Security Strategic Programme Line and other relevant departments of ESA, of technology, product development and system projects for governmental satellite communication applications;
  • Reporting regularly on the progress, status, schedule and outcome of managed activities, including realistic forecasting of milestone completion dates;
  • Identifying and defining product and technology needs for future satellite communication systems and services;
  • Coordinating expert technical support provided by other ESA organisational units (e.g. Directorate of Operations, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality), as required, to ensure effective initiation and management of activities;
  • Coordination with external stakeholders as required.

Technical competencies

Experience in managing technology and product development activities carried out by industry for satellite communication and governmental applications
Knowledge of ESA and industrial development, verification and procurement processes
Knowledge of satcom system architectures, products and market
Knowledge of security solutions for satellite telecommunication networks
Knowledge of AI, cloud, high performance computing or quantum technologies

Education

A Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required.

Additional requirements

You have experience in satellite ground or space segment technology and products, system design and development.
Direct experience of working with a commercial and governmental satellite telecommunications organisation and European industry as well as an in-depth understanding of operating within a European agency framework would be distinct advantages.


You have strong negotiation skills and contract or subcontract management experience.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
