This position will be located in Przemysl, Poland.

 

Starting Date & Initial Contract Details

As soon as possible. Full time, 3 months with possibility of extension.

Role Overview

Ensure the protection of Ukrainian new arrivals in Poland and coordinate Ukrainian speaking staff and volunteers at entry points and reception centers in Voivodeship Podkharpachie. Ensure protection training including PSEA (Preventing Sexual Exploitation and Abuse), AAP (Accountability to Affected Persons), PFA (Psychological First Aid), and other for the volunteers; maintain volunteer register / database; other protection activities as needed. Update information and resources to ensure that legal services, survivor resources, mental health resources, and other protection-related resources and information are continuously updated and disseminated.

Project Overview

Medair arrived in Poland at the end of February 2022. The Emergency Response team will be providing protection, NFI, and other assistance within Poland as well as providing WASH, Health, NFI/Shelter, and other emergency assistance in parts of Ukraine.

Key Activity Areas

Project Management

  • Oversee the overall coordination of Ukrainian-speaking volunteers at the Przemysl and Medyka border and welcome facilities.
  • Ensure training materials and minimum standards for volunteers are clearly communicated.
  • Maintain volunteer schedule and ensure sufficient numbers of Ukrainian speaking volunteers are available at all times to facilitate new arrivals entry into Poland and provide them with necessary information to remain safe.
  • Ensure safeguarding practices are implemented and protection principles applied by volunteers and any concerns at the welcome and reception centers are identified and addressed.
  • Maintain an overview of the context and highlight additional gaps, needs, or concerns with the Medair Response Team Leader.
  • Collect and analyse feedback from volunteers in order to provide continuous improvement.

 

Representation

  • Represent Medair with reception center, welcome center, and other local authorities involved in the Ukrainian response in the sites around Przemysl.
  • Liaise with other NGOs & volunteer associations as relevant.
  • Accompany HQ and other Medair visitors on site visits.

 

Staff Management

  • Assist with recruitment of Protection Assistants.
  • Set goals and objectives of the protection assistants, develop and train staff members, conduct performance appraisal, and take disciplinary action if needed in coordination with HR and in line with Medair guidelines.
  • Ensure protection Assistants carries out duties in a professional manner.
  • Promote the health and security of the staff of the designated project(s) by ensuring the application of security guidelines, health and safety in the workplace and healthy living conditions and practices.

Qualifications/ Experiences

  • University degree in a relevant subject. Degree in the humanitarian sector and Leadership training desirable.
  • Good (spoken and written) English, Ukranian, and Polish.
  • 2 years post-qualification experience in a management position, preferably in a relief environment.
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Protection principles and humanitarian essentials.
  • Advanced planning skills. Good negotiation skills. Problem solving ability.
  • Leadership and project management skills.
  • Committed to consultative and servant leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience and willingness in training/mentoring staff.
  • Dynamic, mature. Team-player with good inter-personal skills.
  • Committed to team-building and able to develop and support other team members.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, hard-working, servant-hearted.
