The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) was founded to bring countries together to address Asia’s daunting infrastructure funding gap. The AIIB’s Investment Operations are divided into two regional teams, 1 and 2. Each regional team is led by a Vice President (VP) and reporting staff includes client relations specialists, technical specialists and bankers. Region 1 is responsible for South East Asia and South Asia (except Pakistan and Afghanistan), while Region 2 covers Pakistan, Afghanistan, Central Asia, East Asia, West Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America.
Banking Department has the following business lines: (i) Capital Markets and Structured Products, (ii) Digital Infrastructure and Other Productive Sectors, (iii) Financial Institutions and Syndication, and (iv) Private Equity.
The position, reporting to the Director General (DG), Banking Department, Investment Operations Region 1, will supervise a team of professional and support staff, manage project pipeline development, and provide guidance to the department staff related to investment projects.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist the Director General, Banking Department, IO Region 1 (BNK1), in managing the team in all its functions; serve as OIC of the Department in the absence of the DG, unless otherwsie provided.
- Assist the DG, BNK1 in development of a high-quality project pipeline, manage the effective day-to-day operations of the Department, and provide guidance on operational issues and AIIB policies to Department staff;
- Manage the processing, formulation and documentation of projects from conceptualization to approval stage, ensuring compliance with AIIB’s policies and priorities;
- Contribute to the development of relevant operational policies, strategies, guidelines and programs;
- Actively participate and support the DG, BNK1 in recruitment and team development efforts;
- Represent the interest of the Department in all the relevant internal and external meetings and events;
- Assist the DG, BNK1 in annual business planning and budget management for the Department;
- Proactively create an environment within the team: (i) in which staff and consultants are performance-, results-, and client-oriented; (ii) that actively promotes a culture of trust and openness as well as learning and sharing; and (iii) in which there is a keen sense of responsibility and accountability;
- Inform and provide recommendations to the DG, BNK1 of significant developments, emerging opportunities and challenges in their areas of responsibility; advise the DG, BNK1 on critical relevant internal issues;
- Lead or participate in special initiatives or ad-hoc assignments.
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience in top-tier international financial institutions or MDBs;
- Substantial experience in 1) at least one, preferably two of the primary business lines and 2) the countries covered by the Banking Department, Investment Operations Region 2;
- Substantial experience in project and infrastructure financing across multiple sectors and jurisdictions;
- Knowledge of and experience in the debt and equity capital markets;
- Strong credit and structuring skills;
- Clear and demonstrated track record in achieving results and problem solving;
- Strong managerial and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated ability in managing diverse teams and stakeholders, both internal and external;
- Experience in Asia would be an advantage
- High proficiency and command of English as well as of at least one regional language; and
- At minimum a bachelor’s degree in finance or economics related fields from a reputable university.
