We work in 135 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families and caregivers each year.

Following the war in Ukraine and the immense humanitarian needs resulting from it, we are looking for an experienced and committed Child Protection in Emergencies Advisor (f/m/d)

  • Position title: Child Protection in Emergencies Advisor
  • Duration: until December 2023 with the possibility of extension
  • Working location: Austria Or Poland Or Romania Or Hungary Or Ukraine Or another European country with frequent travels to the region International/Regional Office/Country: Ukraine ERP

 

Mission 

The Child Protection in Emergencies Advisor supports the development of projects within the assigned Member Associations (MAs), ensuring that protection is mainstreamed at all stages of the project cycle. Leads on Child Protection related deliverables in compliance with international standards. Moreover, s/he leads capacity building initiatives in Child Protection on different levels in the assigned countries and works closely with other colleagues of the Ukraine Emergency Response.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure that protection principles and best international practices are integrated into all Child Protection related activities, review the concepts from the protection perspective.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for the realization of Child Protection activities.
  • Lead identification and adjustment of protection interventions, to ensure their high quality, appropriateness and comprehensiveness in line with international standards.
  • Ensure strong collaboration and coordination with other actors in the sector. Participate in and contribute to the work of the Protection working group and other relevant coordination platforms in this technical field.
  • Ensure that non-protection activities also have protection principles mainstreamed at all stages of the project cycle.
  • Lead on the monitoring and evaluation of Child Protection related programming and provide support with quality MEAL tools and processes from the protection perspective.
  • Design and keep updated the protection risk analysis, and other potentially relevant tools.
  • Share technical know-how, provide technical expertise and guidance to project staff as appropriate.
  • Contribute to gap analysis in terms of protection capacities and provide protection related trainings based on the needs.

 Requirements:

  • University degree or equivalent in international law, social sciences, international relations, or related discipline
  • At least 5-10 years of work experience in the sector of civil society, development or humanitarian aid
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in protection programming and mainstreaming in an emergency context
  • Knowledge of international protection standards
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead discussions/meetings
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, work under pressure and cope with stress
  • Experience in establishing strong and effective working relationships with colleagues from different backgrounds and culture
  • Proficiency in English; Ukrainian, Russian or Polish are an asset
  • Willingness to potentilly work in a volatile security environment
