Overview of position
Role objectives

he successful candidate will have the primary responsibilities of:

Medical follow-up and health promotion 

  1. Assist in performing routine clinical tasks required by the General Physcian Consultant during Migration Health Assessments (MHA) and other medical consultations, in particular: taking and recording medical history, performing physical examinations, visual acuity and vital signs measurements. 

  1. Assist the predeparture treatment and pre-embarkation assessments of 'fitness to travel' as required, maintain current relevant records and reports, assist in the implementation of treatment and follow-up actions for cases on medical hold after health assessment

  1. Physically accompany sensitive cases requiring medical care and monitor the progress of their care in collaboration with health facilities and the organization General Physician Consultant

  1. Provide information and detailed explanations to the beneficiaries in relation to:

  • The migration health assessment process; and,

  • Treatments and referrals. 

5. Follow up with the consulted beneficiaries and ensure that their upcoming appointments are maintained. 

6. Prepare, install, or sterilize medical equipment needed for medical examination.

The consultant will support the maintenance of beneficiary records during the period of his/her assignment. These must be carefully preserved in a manner that ensures confidentiality on the organizations premises. At the end of the period of exercise, he/she shall return to the organization all documentation collected in relation to the beneficiaries. These will continue to be kept in accordance with confidentiality standards. 

7. Propose the organization and ensure the facilitation of prevention education and health promotion sessions on relevant and topical themes in collaboration with partners (United Nations Population Fund, General Director of Health, etc.). 

8. Ensure proper reporting and management of incidents encountered related to the health of the beneficiaries and to propose adequate mitigation measures (health monitoring). 

9. Participate in assistance operations in the field (such as assistance to survivors at sea) or in urban areas. 

Coordination 

10. To contribute to the detection of victims of violence and trafficking and to carry out the necessary referrals while ensuring specific follow-up. 

11. Support collaboration with the organization teams, the Director General of Health in Tataouine and Médenine, and other key partners (governmental and non-governmental) 

12. Participate in the coordination with the the organization team in Tunis or Sfax for an optimal care of beneficiaries requiring a joint follow-up / medical transfer. 

13. Liaise with the laboratory, receive results of sputum smears in a timely manner, register the results and inform the Physician on the arrival of the results.

Reporting and deliverables 

14. Support the development of tools to maintain patient files (follow-up sheet, etc.). 

15. Submit a monthly qualitative and quantitative report that includes all activities and actions taken during the month, as well as recommendations, challenges and actions taken to address them. 

16. Maintain up-to-date and available statistics on activities performed.

  • Capability to address racism as a public health issue is a requirement.

  • Has a good knowledge of the health system in Tunisia, particularly in Tataouine or Médenine, as well as of the local public health structure.
