Mission and objectives

The IPC-IG is a global forum for South-South dialogue on innovative development policies guided by a partnership agreement between UNDP and the Government of Brazil, represented by the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic (SAE/PR). The IPC-IG’s mandate is to promote the production and dissemination of studies and policy recommendations, the exchange of best practices in development initiatives and the expansion of South–South cooperation. The leading voice for inclusive growth in and for the South The IPC-IG was founded in 2004. Since 2013, the UNDP Brazil Country Office has offered operational support and its Resident Representative is the director of the Centre. The Brazilian Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA) hosts the IPC-IG and contributes substantively through the participation of its body of researchers in the Centre’s activities. The IPC-IG has disseminated over 1.000 policy-oriented research publications that provide useful insights into various issues related to inclusive growth strategies. It has established and consolidated a global network that covers 189 countries. Its reach extends to over 37,000 selected stakeholders working in related areas at government level, in academia, the United Nations and civil society organisations. The IPC-IG’s training sessions, workshops and study tours have already involved more than 7,000 representatives from around 50 developing countries. The IPC-IG website receives a monthly average of over 160,000 visits, with visitors from over 170 countries.

Context

In 2021, UNICEF, ILO, and WFP (with support from the EU) signed a partnership with the Government of Iraq to catalyse more effective social protection response in the short-term and to support Iraq to accelerate reform in the medium- and longer-term to build a coherent and sustainable national social protection system. Against the above background, the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG)/ UNDP Brazil signed an agreement with UNICEF Iraq titled ´Supporting the development of a comprehensive model of child sensitive cash transfer in Iraq´. Under the agreement, the IPC-IG will develop the following: 1. Assessment of and advice on design and delivery system of the current social safety net programme (SSN) 2. Design of a scalable cash transfer program for women and children from poor households 3. Ad-hoc technical advice related to the reform (as required by Government) All activities will be done separately for Iraq federal level and Kurdistan region of Iraq (KRI), considering their different policy framework and government structures. The IPC-IG is seeking an Online Volunteer to support in translation and research assistance tasks especially for the KRI region.

Task description

The Online Volunteers will be responsible for supporting IPC-IG researchers to: (i) Translate information relevant to the project from Kurdish to English (ii) Provide research assistance on social protection, health and education system in Kurdistan Region of Iraq (by reviewing government website, public reports etc)
