Job Overview:

The Information Technology department is responsible for the design and implementation of the IRC’s global IT strategy, including all needed infrastructure and supporting tools and applications. The mission of the IRC – to bring refugees from harm to home – is what makes the role so exciting. The ideal candidate will be motivated and energized by both.

The Senior Director, Technology, Operations and Information Security leading all aspects of identifying, designing, implementing, and ensuring efficiency of technology resources globally.  This role serves as an experienced resource, bringing forth opportunities to demonstrate global IT solutions to support the strategic and long-term growth of the IRC. The Senior Director will ensure that changes to existing processes, as well as the creation and implantation of new IT tools and processes, align with IRC’s global, long-term strategy.

This role works with Chief Information and Operations Officer and is an effective member of IRC’s Senior Leadership Group.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads all technical, strategic, and directional aspects of IT design, development, management, and support for the global IT environment. This entails developing new concepts, methods, and strategies by putting into action depth and breadth of knowledge and experience to generate creative solutions to core organizational problems and leading the Information Technology Infrastructure per IRC Strategic plans.
  • Leads, mentors, and ensure the Endpoint Systems, Field Office Technology, IT Global Service Delivery, Software Development, Network Operations, Helpdesk,  Quality Assurance, Application Support and Global Information Security units, providing direction and mentorship to 100+ global IT staff members
  • Lead the formation and management of a new integrated IT sub-unit of User Support serving clients for organization wide ERP (Integra), Applications and Helpdesk services. by applying tested change-management strategies to secure an efficient and successful transition
  • Serves as the main focal point for IRC’s Senior Leadership Group on IT-related items, represents IT on the Operations Leadership Team, and leads IT Leadership Team meetings
  • Responsible and accountable for the delivery of effective global IT services, serving as a domain expert on technical and infrastructure issues and projects.
  • Drives a continuous improvement environment across the IT department. This includes the development of standard methodology, approaches to continuous improvement, organizational change, and the development/deployment of effective tools
  • Works closely with US and International Programs to ensure adoption of the systems, ensure business process redesign and standardization, helps to build capacities throughout the organization and anticipate and engender cultural changes that ensure successful implementation.
  • Manages, builds and strengthens productive working relationships with key partners across all IRC business units
  • Serves as a primary focal point with IT external partners and engages vendors in contract negotiation

Job Requirements:

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum 12+ years managing IT at large multi-site, multi-national organizations
  • Minimum 5+ years of leadership responsibility managing midsize to large teams, influencing senior level management by exercising a high degree of latitude, autonomy, and accountability in directing the activities of teams.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven track and capability in leading & running a team with multifaceted strengths
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix environment, particularly in multi-functional teams across multiple lines of business, over whom there may be no direct authority.
  • Must be seen as trusted advisor with discretion for taking actions provided those activities are consistent with operating policies and precedents
  • Excellent project management skills, with demonstrated track record of applying program management principles, practices, and techniques with a strong results orientation. Takes calculated risks to achieve desired results
  • Skilled at facilitating multi-functional projects in an efficient yet collaborative manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Broad exposure to general suite of technologies common in large multinational IT departments – collaboration tools (box, Microsoft suite of office products) and other technology offerings
  • Ability to speak to technical-level staff and develop written reporting and presentational content with level-appropriate messaging up to and including the senior executive level
  • Ability to develop positive relationship with the business community. Self-motivated and a problem solver who can assess and develop strategies for achieving the needs of the user community

Working Environment: Standard office work in environment. 10-15% travel is required.
