Mission and objectives

The Department of Safety and Security (DSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the United Nations security management system (UNSMS) globally. As a global leader in security risk management principles, DSS enables the safe and effective delivery of United Nations programmes and activities in the most complex and challenging environments, while maximizing precious resources. To this end, the work of the Department is aligned under a clear mission, to enable United Nations system programme activities through trusted security leadership and solutions.

Context

Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Division for Partnerships and Specialized Support (DPSS), the incumbent will support resource mobilization activities by identifying emerging needs and partnership opportunities in line with the Resource Mobilization Strategy for UNDSS.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Director of the Division for Partnerships and Specialized Support or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Programme Management Officer – Resource Mobilization will Support UNDSS in implementing its Resource Mobilization Strategy and related Action Plan for 2022-2023. This will include: • Mapping of historic and potential donors in both the public and private sector and their current institutional funding priorities and requirements. Including: a) Mapping of organizations and Member States that have supported UNDSS in the past. b) Mapping of new potential strategic partners, identification of their priorities / interest topics, as well as their decision-making processes and timelines. c) Identification of strategic opportunities for donor engagement • Supporting the development and implementation of a communications plan for the Resource Mobilization Strategy. • Identification of strategic longer-term partnership opportunities. • Identification of opportunities for in-kind support. • Other pertinent activities that may arise. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities. • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
