CIMMYT is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional for the position of Buyer to work in the Supply Chain of the Corporate Services Program of CIMMYT.

The position is based at CIMMYT’s campus in Texcoco, State of Mexico, located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico. 

Specific duties:

  • Administrative tasks:
    • PO’s submissions and confirmations on the Institutional ERP system
    • Maintain the Activities report to enable the proper transactional follow-up and monitoring, and give visibility to the end users.
    • Request and prepare the required documents for new vendors Setup
    • Support in monthly and annual closing of POs in the institutional ERP.
  • Procurement Process:
    • Review purchase requisitions in the ERP system’s Release, and generate the purchase orders according to assigned procurement categories.
    • Follow up of delivery of ordered goods and services with the assigned suppliers.
    • Coordination with Customs Process coordinators for purchases of imported materials, to achieve the best negotiation in terms of costs, incoterms and safety.
    • Review and solve issues regarding the payments to suppliers.
  • Supplier identification and negotiation:
    • Identify in local and international market suitable suppliers based on client requisition and get quotations based on Institutional policies and procedures.
    • Identify, propose, and develop relations with new suppliers according to Institutional needs
    • Execute bidding processes for institutional projects at HQ and Institutional Global Framework as needed.
    • Establish an efficient communication channel with internal clients, suppliers and partners units to ensure efficient and effective completion of the procurement process.
    • Negotiate with suppliers the best value for expenditure and establish delivery dates according to internal requirements
    • Request to the suppliers the documents for contract generation purposes, as needed.
  • Continuous improvement:
    • Instill a service-oriented mindset with efficacy and efficiency in the procurement operations
    • Attend meetings with end users according to the assigned procurement categories
    • Keep confidentiality in the processes according to their functions and responsibilities.
  • After sales support:
    • In case of CIMMYT requestor complaints, support / interact / negotiate with supplier to find a solution.
  • Vendor evaluation:
    • Supports periodic vendor evaluation process and due diligence process.
  • Transcribe source material, prepare documents, reports, tables and charts; distribute as appropriate.
  • Other related activities that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Required academic qualifications, skills, and attitudes:

  • The selected candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in International Trade, Business Administration, Finance or Logistics.
  • The selected candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in similar roles or positions.
  • Advanced level in MS Office, with special remark in Excel and Power Point.
  • Advanced level of English (written and conversational). English will be tested and candidate should score a minimum of C1 on CEFR.
  • The selected candidate must exhibit the following competencies: Organization, Critical thinking, Teamwork, Client Orientation, Problem Solving decision making, Negotiation and Conflict resolution.
