Mission and objectives

The goal of WFP is that all people in the Kyrgyz Republic have access to and use sufficient and nutritious food to enjoy a healthy and productive life. WFP’s response to address food insecurity and nutrition challenges uses food and cash to build assets, spread knowledge and nurture stronger, more resilient communities. WFP aims for no one to be left behind, ensuring that we all work together to create sustainable and inclusive food systems – starting from when the seed is planted and ending when the food is served on the plate. In the Kyrgyz Republic, WFP activities focus on school meals optimization, rural development, smallholder support and resilience building, social safety nets and social protection, disaster risk management and climate change adaptation, and emergency support and early recovery.

Context

The optimized school meals programme aims to ensure that all primary school-aged children have access to safe, adequate and nutritious food all-year round. At the moment, more than 850 schools in the Kyrgyz Republic have replaced "bun and tea" with hot diverse healthy meals. However, we still have to deal with a lack of understanding of healthy diet basics and its importance for children's growing bodies.
