Youth Development Programs Intern

RESPONSIBILITIES: Youth Development Interns will be assigned to one of four positions depending on interest, skillset and availability. All interns will be responsible for assisting in student outreach, program development, implementation, administration, and field trip support. All youth program work is focused on the development of social emotional assets in the areas of Brain Building, Emotion Regulation, Positive Social Skills, Conflict Resolution and Perseverance. Interns will learn how to facilitate programming in a trauma informed, culturally responsive manner; and learn how to cultivate an equitable, welcoming environment. Interns based at Hoover and Crawford High Schools will support academic tutoring and English Language development and are expected to work 1:1 or with small groups of students to guide learning and academic growth. Interns may be asked to support additional programming including Higher Education Financial Aid workshops and family engagement programs.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Intern will learn how to coordinate engaging, skill-building activities for high school or middle school students using trauma-informed and culturally/linguistically responsive practices.
2. Intern will develop skills to empower refugee and immigrant youth through supporting their social emotional learning.
3. Intern will gain insight on various refugee and immigrant issues, and support the systems that enable them to thrive.
4. Intern will be able to provide basic program management support including but not limited to outreach and recruitment, intake, data entry, lesson planning and group program facilitation.
5. Interns (Hoover and Crawford) will be able to provide academic support tailored to the needs of English Language Learners.
