Communications, support for the development of audio-visual and interactive materials and information exchange and outreach.
UNITAR has been supporting countries and international stakeholders on the management of chemicals and waste for more than 20 years. In many cases, we develop outreach, information and training materials on the implementation of key agreements and frameworks.
To provide support to Chemicals and Waste Management Programme Unit (CWMPU) to develop communication tools and materials to promote UNITAR at the national and international level.
The services requested include:
- Conduct research and obtain information on latest and most efficient technologies to develop electronic outreach and communications materials.
- Understand the role of the Chemicals and Waste Management Programme Unit of UNITAR in the international landscape and current negotiations.
- Develop outreach and communication materials to highlight UNITAR’s unique role in the UN system.
- Assist to develop a UNITAR CWMPU communication strategy highlighting the use of existing tools and social media platforms.
- Assist with the development of other training materials for the Programme Unit.
- To have a good understanding on the technical support provided by UNITAR and United Nations (UN) bodies and how this support addresses key national priority topics.
- To better understand the dimension of the chemicals and waste issues and impacts in human health and environment.
- To understand how targeted communications can produce change in societies and communities.
- To understand the benefits and impacts of good communications and outreach programmes.
- To understand how research can shape the design of capacity building and training activities.
- Analyze the current CWMPU communications materials and provide comments.
- Assist to develop communication materials, in interactive and electronic forms, including brochures, pamphlets, posters, infographics (static and interactive).
- Provide support to the development of a Chemicals and Waste Management related training programme on key priority areas – training materials.
- Overall report on the traineeship in UNITAR.
- Materials developed are of high quality and international standards.
- Research developed of high quality and providing guidance to shape the development of training materials.
- Communications materials developed.

Educational background: Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate/postgraduate degree on Graphic Design or Communications or related area or be a recent graduate of the aforementioned qualifications. An interest in health, environment, and sustainable development would be helpful.
Language: The trainee should master the English language.

General conditions of contracts for the service of Trainee apply.
The assignment will be home-based. The Trainee will be therefore required to use his/her own computer with standard Microsoft Office software.
Trainees are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local laws. UNITAR does not reimburse Trainees for any taxes, duty, or other contribution payable by the Trainee on payments made under the Traineeship contract.
The Institute will arrange health insurance coverage for the Trainee.
