Our team and mission

The Communication Department is responsible for the definition of the ESA Communication strategy and policy and its implementation Agency-wide, in cooperation with ESA Directors and under guidance by the Director General. The Department provides communication support for the preparation of future programme decisions and for ensuring wide support for the Agency by significantly increasing the awareness of ESA and space among the general public, policy and decision makers as well as the science and engineering community in Member States. The Department is the Agency’s focal point for all interactions with media, managing media relations and video productions ESA-wide, and defining and managing the implementation of ESA policies on social media.

The Outreach Coordination Office, part of the Production and Management Support Division of the ESA Communication Department, is responsible for the coordination and the harmonization of public relations and outreach activities organized across the local outreach teams located at ESA establishments.

As such, it is responsible for defining and implementing a policy and plan for ESA’s presence at international and national exhibitions and strategic events in Member States, or other countries as necessary, including those for the general public. It relays on the Director General’s Advisory Committee on Communication (ACC) to develop, foster and maintain relationships with Member State communication entities and, in particular, those within national space agencies or offices and within all relevant European Union institutions.  The Outreach Coordination Officer based at ESRIN is the Secretary of the ACC.
