Description

Electrical & Power Systems Project Engineer in the Power Management & Distribution Section, Power Systems, EMC & Space Environment Division, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

You will be assigned as Integrated Support to the Telecommunications Satellite Programmes Department in the Partnership and Opportunity Satellites Division, where you will work on several telecom satellite partnership projects such as Novacom I / OneSat and HummingSat.
Training and familiarisation with the parent Department's mandate, processes and procedures will be provided at the start of this assignment.

Duties

Your responsibilities and duties will include:

•    monitoring the coherent and cost-effective implementation of power & electrical requirements from system level down to the low application level, ensuring the optimisation and completeness of the applicable requirements, and the proper application/ tailoring of ECSS and industry standards;
•    following-up on the design, development manufacturing and testing of the power subsystem in close contact with industry; 
•    leading industry development reviews of power systems on behalf of the project manager and actively supporting system reviews accordingly; 
•    maintaining up-to-date power budgets; 
•    supporting the definition and performance of the tests in the framework of the verification and qualification programme in the area of responsibility;
•    following-up on procurement of all hardware included in the power subsystem;
•    coordinating closely with other team members, liaising with the System Manager and the PA Manager, and providing support as needed on electrical & power engineering;
•    monitoring the schedule and risks affecting the subsystem, including those with a bearing on procurement of units of the power sub-system;
•    coordinating the specialised engineering support from the ESA Technical Directorate in the appropriate areas of competence as defined in coordination with the respective system manager;
•    monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining state-of-the-art expertise;
•    participating in periodic meetings with the parent Section, contributing to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency.

Education

A master's degree in engineering or physics is required for this post.

Additional requirements

Knowledge and experience of running power systems development and of aerospace domains is required for this post, more specifically in:

-    power system architecture for spacecraft, power budgets, functional design and operations of power systems;
-    integration, validation and testing of power systems;
-    technologies and current technology trends in solar power generation, energy storage, power regulation and distribution and DC-DC conversion;
-    standard telecommunication satellite industry practices.


Specific experience in solar array development is considered an asset.
 

Professional experience in the space manufacturing industry and/or with a satellite operator and/or in satellite telecommunications partnership projects is desirable.
