JOB PURPOSE

WFP’s Supply Chain function, made up of more than 4,000 employees worldwide, is seeking to strengthen its profile both internally and externally. As part of the team, the Communications Officer will contribute to developing communication products that showcase the diverse range of tasks carried out across the supply chain to help WFP to reach more than 100 million people with food assistance each year.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • In collaboration with the Special Assistant to the Director and the Front Office Team, work on the development of a comprehensive internal and external communications strategy for the division, designed to highlight and showcase the diverse work of the function and build community amongst supply chain staff globally. This strategy should align with WFP's corporate communications strategy and meet donor visibility requirements as necessary.
  • In support of the strategy, work to produce various communications products including social media posts and multimedia items, articles, profiles, newsletters, reports, factsheets, presentations, videos and talking points as needed.
  • Assist in the development of a social media strategy that sets specific goals and monitors ROI, aligning with WFP corporate social media priorities and styles and researching trends and audience preferences. Administer WFP Supply Chain social media accounts.
  • Assist in the development of a strategy for WFP Supply Chain's Yammer community to support internal communications initiatives.
  • Support in the clearance of all communications products for the division, working with units to ensure that any articles, videos or other significant pieces of communications materials produced are to a high standard, reflect well on the division and align with the overall communications strategy. Where content is produced outside the division, work with the relevant CAM focal points to ensure that messaging is accurate.
  • Deploy on field missions to gather content as needed.
  • Work with the graphic designer to establish and manage the division's photo and video archive, and to upload Supply Chain content to the corporate repository.

  • Monitor Supply Chain information on WFPgo and wfp.org to ensure information is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Ensure that all written outputs are compliant with WFP standards and templates and ensure this is adhered to for any documents leaving the division.
  • Others as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

  • University degree in social sciences, international relations, communications, journalism or related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of two years professional experience in an international context in the field of communications. Knowledge of supply chain and graphic design/multimedia content creation are desirable.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure as part of a team; strong written and visual communication skills; excellent analytical skills; ability to acquire knowledge quickly; experience with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suites.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, including analytics. Ability to keep abreast of latest trends in communications methods.

Language

  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and knowledge of a second UN language is highly desired.
