The Trade and Agriculture Directorate (TAD), in line with the strategic objectives of the Secretary-General, provides relevant and timely information, analysis and advice in support of governments’ efforts to improve the domestic and international performance of their trade, agriculture, food and fishery policies and to maintain the orderly use of export credits. 

The Agro-Food Trade and Markets (ATM) Division within TAD works to develop and communicate evidence-based advice to governments with the aim of helping them improve the domestic and international performance of their policies for agro-food trade and markets.

 

Role

The Young Associate will report to the Senior Agricultural Policy Analyst. The ATM Division is seeking a Young Associate to contribute to analytical studies that examine agricultural trade policies and developments, in particular the digitalisation of agricultural trade, agricultural sustainability and trade, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, fertiliser policies, export restrictions, and border measures. The work involves a mix of data collection, quantitative analysis and policy oriented research.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Carry out research on sustainable agriculture and trade and on the use of digital tools in agricultural trade.

  • Track relevant policies and policy changes in the field of agricultural trade and contribute to the OECD policy database on export restrictions for the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) Initiative.

  • Contribute to the statistical work which is required to compile, clean and analyse agricultural, trade and policy data.

  • Contribute to drafting sections of reports, policy papers, briefing notes and working papers.

  • Contribute to the development of methods for identifying and disseminating key findings and messages in an effective and innovative way, including through data visualisations and presentations.

 

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

  • Undergraduate degree in agricultural economics, economics or related discipline (graduation date between 1 January 2022 and 1 September 2023). Applications from candidates who already hold or are enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or equivalent degree will not be considered.

  • Course work in at least two of the following areas is required\: economics, international trade, statistics, public policy.

 

Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as strong analytical abilities.

  • Knowledge or research methodology and drafting research papers would be an asset.

  • Creativity, intellectual curiosity, willingness to learn, interest in inter-disciplinary approaches, self-organisation.

 

Languages

  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and a knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the other.
