Malteser International Americas (MIA) has been operational in the USA, Latin America & the Caribbean since 2014 and is currently implementing projects in the fields of Health, Relief, Reconstruction & Rehabilitation; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Sustainable Livelihoods, Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaption in Colombia, Haiti, Peru, Mexico and the USA. Malteser International sees health as a holistic state of full physical, mental and social wellbeing connected to water, sanitation and hygiene; food and nutrition security; shelter, and environmental health. Since 2018, Malteser International Americas has expanded its medical aid activities in Colombia as a response to the increasing influx of refugees from crisis-ridden Venezuela. Livelihood and Income Generation are of increasing importance for sustainable integration and development.

To help oversee and manage projects in Venezuela, with sector focus on health, nutrition and food security, Malteser International Americas (MIA) is looking for a motivated Partner Operations Coordinator based in Colombia for our projects implemented by national partners in Venezuela.

The Partner Operations Coordinator position would be based in Bogota for home-based remote management with regular travel to Maracaibo, Venezuela. The position will strengthen the structural capacities of the local partner organizations, will be responsible to guide the projects implementation in line with international humanitarian standards as well as Malteser International’s policies, procedures and guidelines and will also be responsible to support proper coordination of projects with relevant stakeholders in the field.

Your responsibilities:

  • Plan, oversee and manage humanitarian and development projects in close collaboration with local partners, including reporting and financial controlling
  • Set up and strengthen the partners’ operational and structural capacities to ensure project implementation according to international quality standards
  • Continuously strive to strengthen quality, capacity building of implementing partners and adherence to international standards, including mainstreaming of cross-cutting issues such as localization, gender, inclusion, protection and PSEA
  • Represent MI, build and maintain good relations with partner organizations, national authorities and (inter)national organizations represented in the country and ensure presence in relevant clusters, forum, events, meetings and conferences
  • Program development, including the identification of potential for strategic extension of the current project in Venezuela in the same or new areas of work for MI and potential new partnerships as well as elaborating intervention strategies and proposals to government donors, with focus on German donors
  • Foster synergies and exchange with the Colombia country team to ensure transfer of best practices and lessons learned and to establish respective exchange mechanisms between the programs
  • Function as the Security Focal Point towards HQ, coordinate with relevant staff and follow up on security incidents

Your profile:

  • Academic degree in a related field and minimum 3 years’ experience in a management position in humanitarian assistance and/or development programs
  • Professional experience overseas, ideally in Latin America
  • Proven international project management skills, including project cycle management, budget management, logical framework, monitoring, proposal and report writing
  • Previous experience in acquiring funding and managing international donor grants
  • Proven partnership building capacities as well as excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Fluency in Spanish and English with excellent verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of German or French would be an asset

What we offer:

  • Start Date: 16th of April 2023
  • Duty Station: Bogota with regular travel to Venezuela
  • Duration of contract: 1 year (with possibility to extend)
  • Salary in the annual range of $40,000 to $45,000
