Org. Setting and Reporting

The positions are located in the Enterprise Resource Planning Solution Division (ERPSD), the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC) in New York. The Information System Officer will report to the Senior Information System Officers.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

• Manages projects involving feasibility studies, systems analysis, design, development and implementation of new, moderately complex systems, and/or, participates as a member of a team with responsibility for major components of SAP systems.
• Prepares detailed system and other functional specifications and user documentation for one or more of the following SAP systems’ areas: Human Capital Management (HCM), Supply Chain Management (SCM), Finance or Analytics workstreams.
• Supports management team in the identification of all issues and risks and provides input on resolution and/or mitigation plans to address the identified items.
• Assists with the coordination with SAP on matters related to one or more of the following areas: HCM, SCM, Finance or Analytics in particular, related to areas of the public sector solutions, to ensure defects are reported and resolved in a timely manner. Also provides clear systems and functional requirements to SAP based on approved business process requirements.
• Provides specialized advice to users, analyzing users’ requirements and translating these into new applications; determines application systems integration and linkage issues.
• Maintains, upgrades or enhances existing user systems; troubleshoots and provides continuing user support, to include resolving difficult problems, advising on the use of new techniques, monitoring transactions to measure performance and continued effectiveness of assigned systems, etc. Supports design, development & maintenance of SAP technology streams, systems, tools & connecting points.
• Analyzes business and users' requirements to be translated into new SAP applications or enhancements and supports design and post-testing release of technical documentation, conducting code reviews and other steps.
• Participates in the overall design and implementation of the Umoja Solution Architecture, including determination of roadmaps, upgrades and integration strategies, enhancements as well as customization proposals, delivering risk/benefit analysis and well-documented plans with solid technical justifications.
• Develops and maintains computer programs that require integration of many interrelated systems and program elements; ensures appropriate data security and access controls considering both local and wide area issues.
• Organizes and performs unit and integrated testing, designing and utilizing test bases; assists users in acceptance testing.
• Develops training materials, operating and user manuals; trains staff in assigned systems.
• Develops disaster recovery plans and ensures appropriate planning and training of those responsible.
• Researches, analyzes and evaluates new technologies and makes recommendations for their deployment.
• Participates in writing reports and papers on systems-related topics, system requirements, information strategy, etc.
• Provides guidance to, and may supervise, new/junior staff, consultants, etc.

Competencies

Ability to make decisions regarding strategy for and oversees the design and implementation of major systems initiatives in the area of SAP Human Capital Management (HCM) or Supply Chain Management (SCM) or systems engineering or Finance or Analytics, with a particular focus on configuration and coding. Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, engineering, business administration, finance, data analytics or related field is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in combination with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of computer information systems in a SAP environment including experience within the United Nations or other large comparable international organizations is required.

Experience with Human Capital Management [HCM] (HR, OM, Payroll, Travel, benefits), or Supply Chain Management [SCM] (Logistics, Procurement/SRM, Property and Asset Management, Demand/Supply Planning) or Finance (FI, GM, FM, BPC) or Analytics (data modelling in SAP BW, SAP HANA and Visualization in SAC) or systems engineering (development in ABAP, Fiori and SAP PO; SAP security administration, SAP Basis administration) is required.

Experience integrating SAP ERP with other enterprise systems including interfaces based on SOA principles and technology is desirable.

Two years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
