The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing the Infrastructure for Tomorrow—infrastructure with sustainability at its core. The Communications Department seeks a Civil Society Officer who is expert in strategic stakeholder relationship management and experienced working in/with interest groups and advocacy organizations.

Possibly an environmental activist, journalist, public affairs consultant, diplomat, campaigner, policy analyst, science and/or climate communicator, the ideal appointee to this key position has existing relationships plus a proven track record addressing and engaging civil society. The successful candidate will play a central role on AIIB’s communications team and be a key performer in helping build and structure the Bank's mutually beneficial relationships with civil society across the organization.

Responsibilities include:

  • Strategic relationship management and ongoing connectivity with leaders of civil society and non-governmental organizations. 
  • Identifying new opportunities and channels to engage with stakeholders through meaningful dialogue.
  • Designing, developing, and driving a comprehensive plan of action for AIIB’s meaningful, substantial, and ongoing civil society engagement.
  • Providing communication counsel for executives when dealing with civil society stakeholder situations, including creating scenarios, planning processes, drafting content, preparing proof points, briefing material, project case studies, etc.
  • Collaborating with other departments, project team leaders and members of the communications team to integrate proactive and strategic outreach into Bank communications.
  • Serving as senior point of contact for CSO representations to AIIB and working with the communications team and other staff to develop bespoke responses.
  • Providing advice, analysis, and recommendations on civil society policy matters.
  • Collaborating with colleagues help organize and orchestrate AIIB’s fulfillment of its commitments to civil society organizations.
  • Championing transparency in all AIIB's operations and across our diverse project portfolio through the Bank’s Policy on Public Information (PPI).

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years’ career experience working in or with civil society.
  • An existing network of relationships with civil society leaders and contacts.
  • Knowledge of current affairs and international issues, as well as environmental issues, climate change, sustainability, multilateralism, and so on.
  • Literacy in all forms of digital media, including the leading social networks.
  • Adaptability, agility, and flexibility across a diverse range of issues and situations.
  • Able to work independently and proactively take the initiative in sometimes uncertain and challenging circumstances where confident, deft, and tactful improvisation is needed.
  • Can work under time pressure and deploy rapidly against deadlines in an unrelentingly fast-paced environment.
  • A positive mental attitude, with an inclusive manner and a solutions orientation.
  • Ambition to influence outcomes through persuasive communication intended to achieve sustainable commercial objectives.
  • Understands how civil society contributes to the achievement of the Bank’s purpose to improve socioeconomic outcomes.
  • Committed to the highest standards of ethics and excellence in the communications craft.
  • Strong writing skills, adept at composing content for convincing communication.
  • A collaborative character and inclusive disposition.
  • Knows how to seize opportunities take the initiative to put plans into action.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (and Mandarin ideally).
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, political science, economics/finance, international relations, public affairs, marketing, or other related fields, from a reputable university.
