In India, Jhpiego works across various states in close collaboration with national and state governments, providing technical assistance in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, strengthening human resources for health, and non-communicable diseases. These programs are funded by USAID, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, UNICEF, World Health Organization, University of Manitoba, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), MSD for Mothers, UNITAID and others.

Jhpiego is hiring Program Officers (PO) for rolling out the Nurse Practioner in Midwifery Educator (NPME) course and establishing ‘Midwifery-led Care Units’ to transform maternal and neonatal health care. The PO will work under the supervision of Jhpiego State Team Lead, Madhya Pradesh & Lead Midwifery -Nursing ICO, support the implementation of the program’s annual work plan by assisting in designing, tracking and supporting the implementation and monitoring of respective program activities. The POs will report to the State Team Lead, MP.

Responsibilities
• Provide technical support to the identified College of Nursing and their clinical site in establishing it as a National Midwifery Training Institute (NMTI).
• Regularly meet with the stakeholders of identified NMTI and other project sites in support of activity implementation and monitoring.
• Work closely with National and International Midwifery Educators for Midwifery Educators course at NMTI.
• Periodical analysis of Midwifery courses operations and ensuring adherence to competency-based Midwifery Education at identified training sites.
• Mentoring of NMTI, for smooth project management and respond in a timely manner for meetings, reports and other requests.
• Work with Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team for reporting on project related indicators, assessment tools, clinical data of training site as per program need.
• Facilitate the development of financial proposals for operationalization of SMTI and MLCUs with district officials for incorporation in the state’s National Health Mission (NHM) Program Implementation plan
(PIP)
• Coordinate and collaborate with government officials, state nursing council, stakeholders and Jhpiego staff for effective implementation of the programs as well as liaise with other partners working in Midwifery program at the district and state level.
• Facilitate the regulatory activities for Midwifery Educators’ curriculum and support facility nodal.
• Represent Jhpiego at district and divisional meetings involving government and other development partners.
• Documentation of lessons learnt during the program implementation and best practices emerging at the district level
• Work closely with the supervisor on setting program priorities and directions, and responding to requests for technical support from government and local counterparts.
• Assist the supervisor for developing periodic project reports from time to time, as required.
• Perform or assume other duties as assigned by the supervisor to achieve the organizational goals.

Abilities/Skills:
• Ability to develop productive working relationships with other agencies, stakeholders and other organizations including government counterparts.
• Proficiency in writing technical and programmatic documents such as training materials and reports.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English, Hindi and regional languages
• Ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines.
• Ability to multi task and work under multicultural environment.
• Ability to work in a diverse technical team.
• Proficiency in computers – Microsoft Office.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 50 % of his/her time.

Qualifications/Knowledge and Experience:
• BSc (Nursing) required. Additional Master’s degree in OBG would be preferred.
• 1 - 3 years of experience in teaching/ education/conducting clinical training programs in PSE/ MNCH.
• Technical knowledge and field experience in health programs, particularly Nursing/ Midwifery Education focusing on essential Obstetric Care, IMNCI and Family Planning.
• Technical knowledge and experience of pre-service education for the development for Nurses.
• Knowledge of latest GoI Midwifery and other related guidelines, program management, Program Implementation plan (PIP) process and PIP development.
• Familiarity with the Indian health system, key stakeholders and relevant government policies/strategies particularly National Rural Health Mission and Indian Nursing Council.
