Provide services of experienced designers who can provide good quality graphic design services according to UNICEF global standards to support visual documentation and reporting of issues, events and human-interest stories related to the implementation of Country Program of Cooperation between the Government of Uzbekistan and UNICEF in 2023-2025.

Provide services of experienced designers who can provide good quality graphic design services according to UNICEF global standards to support visual documentation and reporting of issues, events and human-interest stories related to the implementation of Country Program of Cooperation between the Government of Uzbekistan and UNICEF in 2023-2025.

The contractor(s) will provide services to all programme sections, as and when required.

Scope of Work:
Produce designs and artwork for UNICEF Uzbekistan’s needs for communication, advocacy and outreach materials in 2023-2025.

At the end of each assignment, the contractor is expected to deliver within the agreed timeline with UNICEF Uzbekistan:

  • Final approved design option in the ‘ready-to-print’ format submitted to UNICEF staff on CD/DVD, memory stick, hard drive or via providing a link to a shared drive in Internet. This must be in line with UNICEF branding and graphic guidelines.
  • PDF format design for archiving on UNICEF website submitted to UNICEF staff on CD/DVD, memory stick, hard drive, by email or via providing a link to a shared drive in Internet.
  • Printing/production specifications (in consultation with the printer or production agency).

All materials produced by UNICEF Uzbekistan are expected to be of the highest quality in standard to serve as effective communication, advocacy and outreach tools for different target audiences. These materials need to conform to the standards and guidelines prescribed by UNICEF.

Work Assignments Overview - Deliverables/Outputs - Timeline

1. Design of the requested product(s) in the ‘ready-to-print/upload’ format submitted to UNICEF staff on CD/DVD, memory stick, hard drive or via providing a link to a shared drive in Internet - Subsequent deliverables to be agreed with the supervisor - First draft of the requested product to be submitted within three working days the latest.

2. PDF format design of the requested product(s) for archiving on UNICEF website or other sources submitted to UNICEF staff on CD/DVD, memory stick, hard drive, by email or via providing a link to a shared drive in Internet - Subsequent deliverables to be agreed with the supervisor - Within two days after approval of the product(s).

3. Printing/production specifications (in consultation with the printer or production agency) - Subsequent deliverables to be agreed with the supervisor - Within two days after approval of the product(s).

At the end of each assignment, the contractor is expected to deliver:
a) Broadcast quality video files, in formats according to UNICEF specifications for further use on the Internet, TV, etc.
b) Shot lists indicating duration, location, names of persons shown in the video, and date.
c) Accompanying information/story as agreed with UNICEF.

If there are deliverables other than above-mentioned, contractor and UNICEF Staff member will agree to the specifications thereof.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Minimum completed secondary education supported with certified specialized training in design.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience as a Graphic Designer in desk-top publishing, including the experience in designing multiple language versions.
  • Previous work experience with the UN/UNICEF or international development agencies is an asset.
  • Proven knowledge of print and graphic design fundamentals and related software (Adobe In-Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Draw, Microsoft Office, etc.) as well as evolving technologies.
  • Knowledge of English is an advantage.

Reservations and remarks

All materials developed will remain the copyright of UNICEF and cannot be submitted, distributed to or used by any other party. UNICEF will be free to adapt and modify them in the future. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold all or a portion of payment if performance is unsatisfactory, if deliverable(s) incomplete, not finalized or for failure to meet deadlines.

UNICEF will reserve copy right of all developed materials and own primary data collected through this assignment. The materials cannot be published or disseminated without prior written permission of UNICEF. UNICEF will be free to adapt and modify them in the future. The contractor must respect the confidentiality of the information handled during the assignment. Documents and information provided must be used only for the tasks related to these terms of reference.

Selected candidates can be put on the roster for other UN agencies, to be used for assignments of respective agencies.

Resource requirement and payment

UNICEF Uzbekistan will establish the rates based on the type of services and deliverables required, and in alignment with the practices applied by other UN agencies in the country.

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

The Consultant will receive direct payment to his/her indicated bank account in Uzbek Sums based on the UN currency exchange rate.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
