The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.  We are currently seeking to fill an intern position with the Emergencies and Transitions Unit, PROP, based in Rome, Italy.

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION

To promote sound and cutting-edge programme support to WFP field operations, the Emergencies and Transitions Unit (PRO-P) has established an Evidence Building, Knowledge Management and Learning workstream. The objective of the initiative is to advance programme excellence through research and analysis of cross-cutting matters relevant for WFP operations.

 

In addition, PRO-P has been heavily investing on establishing a functioning Knowledge Management (KM) system, to ensure that knowledge related to emergency and transitional programming is captured, maintained, accessible and disseminated across WFP – particularly to field operations. The combination of documenting, managing, and disseminating good programme practice, will provide WFP operations with an additional basis to take forward comprehensive programming that is fit for purpose.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support with knowledge curation activities, mainly with content upload across PRO-P digital spaces (internal and external);
  2. Help with the re-organisation of PRO-P internal Sharepoint/teams
  3. Monitor PROP mail box and keep track of the requests/queries received
  4. Contribute to KM initiatives as needed
  5. Any other business as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university;
  • University course attendance in the past 12 months.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Basic understanding of WFP and its programmes
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manners
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team spirit

 

WORKING LANGUAGES

Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C).

 

SUPERVISION 

Under the direct supervision of Programme and Policy Officer, the incumbent will be provided with close mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be elemental part of the supervision. The Evidence Building, Knowledge Management and Learning team lead  of the Emergencies and Transitions Unit will be the second-level supervisor.

 

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn.  Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

 

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

  • Have an understanding of KM platforms in WFP
  • Gain knowledge around PRO-P main thematic areas
  • Deepen their coordination and collaboration skills

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
