The purpose of this role is to identify, support and strengthen youth and feminist movements across the UNGEI partnership, and to strengthen feminist leadership within UNGEI networks. The Youth Movements and Feminist Leadership Officer is primarily responsible for two streams of work: one, leading UNGEI’s work to partner with and support feminist youth leaders’ participation and two, programme coordination on feminist capacity building among education actors. The Officer will also be UNGEI’s lead for ensuring that UNGEI undertakes an intergenerational approach in all of its work. This includes working to advance the leadership of young feminist advocacy and activism in the movement for gender equality in and through education. The Officer will also play a key role in UNGEI’s mandate to bridge the feminist movement with the gender equality and education movement.

Our mandate is to catalyze and galvanize action locally, nationally, regionally and global for girls’ education and gender equality in education. We bring together diverse partners to develop and implement bold commitments to gender equality in education. How can you make a difference?

Coordinate and manage Feminist School and Young Feminist Fund

  • Support the development, implementation and monitoring of the delivery of different editions of Feminist School and Young Feminist Grants
  • Facilitate existing and new partnerships to sustain and scale up the Feminist School and Young Feminist Fund. 
  • Organize and provide inputs to the advisory groups for Feminist School and Young Feminist Fund.
  • Support the preparation of project reports.

Support and coordinate youth and feminist movements:

  • Support and supervise Transform Education, the young feminist coalition hosted by UNGEI. Includes coaching and facilitating learning opportunities.
  • Coordinate and/or support working groups and networks, including Feminist Network for Gender Transformative Education, Global Partnership for CSE, and Youth 2030 Working Group; and foster youth feminist participation and movement building within the SRGBV Working Group, Partner Coalition to End Gender Stereotypes in Classrooms, Advisory Groups for Feminist School and Young Feminist Fund
  • Identify, facilitate and nurture new partnerships with diverse feminist led and youth led networks for potential collaboration and engagements, especially less represented groups like those focusing on disabilities, LGBTQIA+, marginalized ethnic and religious communities and others.
  • Develop standards and criteria for meaningful feminist youth participation and support UNGEI members, GCI partners and others to take these up.
  • Work closely with the child safeguarding expert in the ADAP team to ensure UNGEI’s adherence to principles of child/youth participation and safeguarding when assisting in the development/implementation of all campaigns, events, communication products and platforms.

Lead and support campaigning, advocacy and events 

  • Develop and contribute to campaigns, advocacy activities and events around gender equality in and through education by ensuring meaningful young feminist participation and feminist leadership. 
  • Ensure there is young feminist participation from UNGEI networks in global advocacy moments and events (ie. Summit of the Future, UNGA, CSW, COP etc.).
  • Support the creation of digital content for and amplify intergenerational and youth feminist work.

Support feminist leadership within and beyond UNGEI

  • Working closely with the UNGEI Director, identify entry points to support and encourage UNGEI partner organizations to coalesce and work jointly on feminist principles and actions.
  • Support the Feminist Network for Gender Transformative Education with linkages to young feminist activists and other feminist leaders from developing countries and working on UNGEI’s focus areas with a focus on LGBTQ experts and advocates.
  • Support UNGEI and partners to identify opportunities to make their resources more accessible to youth feminist networks and young activists.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree (Bachelor’s) in one of the following fields: gender or women’s studies, education, sociology, psychology, child development, international development.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in gender justice or international development especially in education or other child rights sectors;
  • Prior experience in leading and supporting youth feminist movements at global and local levels is desired.
  • Experience in building and managing relationships with youth movements and networks around the world, especially feminist young education/ child rights activists is an asset.
  • Experience in supporting gender equality and education programmes is an asset.
  • Experience in training and facilitation is an asset.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, French or Spanish) is an asset.
