BACKGROUND

Purpose of Activity/ Assignment:

The consultant will support several tasks on KM, communications and youth engagement, including updating unicef.org/disabilities, SharePoint of Disability Section, help with support with bringing the voices of youth with disabilities for different and events and research projects.

Background:

In all the projects led by the Disability Section of NYHQ, the experience of children, youth and adolescents with disabilities plays an important role and, in many cases, guides our work. This year UNICEF Disability Section will be engaged in several global events and development of multiple resources, where the engagement of youth with disabilities will be crucial.

Scope of Work:

This consultancy will support with knowledge management and youth engagement.

KM: Under the tasks of knowledge management and communication:

  • In collaboration with  disability section and disability focal points review each of the nine Pages under “Inclusive Programming” and each of the eight pages under “Cross-Cutting” and together with Focal Point for each page, identify new resources to upload.
  • working together with disability communication focal point and Global communication and advocacy team  digital strategy FP Updating disabilities@unicef.org and present to the Disability FP the navigation and positioning of key resources.
  • Update and enhance functionality of Resources dashboard  (publications and video, webinars, human interest stories, social media postings, by searching the internet, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and presenting to Disability Section members.
  • Post on Yammer stories, social media postings, publications, etc…
  • Upon the request, identify the best human-interest stories to be features in specific resources

Youth Engagement work

  • Update database of youth with disabilities, verify contacts and references, identify engage and support contributors to share stories via Voices of Use and advice on the best speaker
  • Support at least 6 webinars and events, engaging youth with disabilities, logistics, engagement in conceptualisation, including UNICEF-lead Disability session at Global adolescents Forum, World’s Children Day, Int day of Persons with Disabilities, Webinar for GenU, December 3 session with Interagency Task Team 2030 youth with disabilities; Innocenti project on the value of research.

Performance indicators for evaluation of results:

The performance of work will be evaluated based on the following indicators:

  • Completion of tasks specified in ToR.
  • Compliance with the established deadlines for submission of deliverables.
  • Quality of deliverables.
  • Demonstration of high standards of work.  

Contractual modalities:

  • Location: The consultants will be home-based
  • Reporting: The consultant will be supervised by the UNICEF Disability Specialist

  3. Resources Dashboard improved/updated and presented at team meetings & new stories posted on Yammer (at least 24 during consultancy period) – By 31 Oct 2023, 30 Nov 2023. 31 Dec 2023, 31 Jan 2024, 29 Feb 2024, 31 Mar 2024

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s level; An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: international relations, communication, youth development and other relevant fields

Work experience:

  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: knowledge management, international relations, youth engagement
  • Proven experience managing Dashboards 
  • Proven experience in consulting with youth with and without disabilities
  • Good knowledge of SharePoint System
  • Experience working with UN agencies is as asset
  • Fluent in English

Requirements:

Completed profile in UNICEF's e-Recruitment system and

  • Upload copy of academic credentials
  • Financial proposal that will include/ reflect :
    • the costs per each deliverable and the total lump-sum for the whole assignment (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference.
    • travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR.
    • Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.
    • Indicate your availability
  • Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

U.S. Visa information:

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants. Consultants are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
