OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

 

Under the overall authority of the Director of Division of Partnerships, at Bureau of Strategic Planning, the incumbent shall provide his/her communication expertise to strengthen UNESCO’s efforts in increasing visibility to UNESCO’s important partnerships and strengthen UNESCO’s internal knowledge management on partnerships.

 

The individual specialist will assist the Division of Partnerships, notably by:

  • Content creation, curation, and editing for partnership website: Review the partnerships webpage and propose enhancements. Review and synthesize existing materials, create engaging content for the website to highlight major partnerships, and work with the Division of Partnerships on communication messages.
  • Visual material development: Design templates for brochures, flyers, pitch decks and webpages that are visually appealing, adaptable, and in line with UNESCO's branding guidelines. Develop and manage a roster of graphic designers that can provide services on a retainer basis.
  • Support for visibility campaigns: Develop internal communication guidelines on donor visibility campaigns and partnerships, as well as an annual calendar for partner visibility campaigns. Coordinate with partners focal points, sectors and field offices to develop content, execution, ensuring timely delivery of communication assets, and provide post-event analysis.
  • Internal knowledge management: Review the structure and content of the BSP intranet and make proposals for enhancements, support content development for internal purposes, synthesize complex information into accessible formats.

Education

  • Advanced university degree in communication, journalism, public relations, business administration or related fields. 

 

Work experience

  • A minimum of two years of experience in communications, public information, media relations, journalism. Experience in international development cooperation is an asset.
  • Previous working experience in writing news and managing social media platforms is required.

 

Skills/Competencies

  • Ability to synthesize information from different sources and to improve the narratives to make it more appealing to external audiences.
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills, including ability to create, edit and present information in clear and presentable formats.
  • Excellent knowledge of social media and design software such as Adobe Photoshop/InDesign.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in multicultural environment with external and internal partners.

 

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken).
  • Knowledge of French is an asset.

 

CONTRACT DURACTION AND DELIVERABLES

 

This Consultant Contract is for a period of 6 months.

The assignment will be based in Paris, France.

The Individual Specialist will report monthly on the progress of communication efforts on UNESCO’s website, internal partnerships’ knowledge management as well as donor visibility campaigns.
