Work Location
This internship is designed to be full-time and in person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate.
Expected duration
6 months with expected start date of 1 May 2024.
Duties and Responsibilities
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This internship is located within the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) Secretariat in Washington D.C. STAP provides independent scientific and technical advice to the GEF on its policies, strategies, programs, and projects. Under the supervision of a Programme officer, the Intern will: - Assist with research on issues related to the main focal areas of the GEF 9Biodiversity, climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, chemicals and waste, land degradation, and international waters), for example to help with STAP Papers. - Assist in preparing speaking notes and presentations, and in organizing STAP meetings and workshops; and - Assist with STAP communications, including updating the STAP website.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must be a student of a final year of the first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), Master or PhD programme or equivalent or have completed a Bachelor, Master or PhD. Good knowledge of standard software applications, specifically MS Word, Excel, Power Point is required. Interest in the work of the UN and the GEF is required. Ability to work in an internationally and culturally diverse environment is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.
