BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:

The Public Partnerships Division (PPD) is responsible for developing and strengthening public partnerships to support UNICEF’s work to protect the rights of every child.

The partnerships with Washington DC-based International Financial Institutions (IFIs) are among UNICEF’s most important and multi-faceted external partnerships.

The Public Partnerships intern will work closely with the PPD’s International Financial Institutions (IFIs) team based in Washington DC, supporting the team with a variety of tasks related to the management of IFI partners. This includes managing partnerships and resource mobilization with the IFIs, including the World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund, Regional Development Banks such as the Inter-American Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Investment Bank, and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Assist in the preparation of briefing notes, reports, and other documentation required by UNICEF leadership for meetings with partners.
  • Develop and update guidance and fact sheets on engagement with IFI partners.
  • Develop communications content to strengthen partnership recognition and visibility, including but not limited to, social media content, blogs, op-eds, and presentations.
  • Support the team in capturing, documenting, and organizing relevant knowledge, including participating in KM working groups, networks, and communities of UNICEF KM specialists and focal points that are relevant to PPD.
  • Compile data, information, and news on subject matter relevant to IFIs.
  • Support other functions of the Public Partnerships team as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education: Must be enrolled, within the past year, in an undergraduate or graduate degree program with a preferred major in international development or related field.

Language: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN working languages is desirable.

Competencies: 

  • Advantage if knowledgeable of the Washington, D.C. area and a basic understanding of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).
  • Strong analytical skills to synthesize and communicate concepts.
  • Ability to conduct research and draft reports.
  • Capacity to work independently on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapt to changing demands and circumstances.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must uphold and demonstrate the UNICEF core values of Commitment, Diversity, and Integrity.

Salary/Payment:
There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship. UNICEF is not responsible for obtaining any necessary visas.

Insurance:
UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during the fellowship’s service. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan before starting his/her work.

Living and Working Conditions:
The fellowship is full-time (40 hours per week), with the option to be part-time for the right candidate. The Washington DC office will primarily work remotely through most of the period, with periodic meetings and events in person should the conditions permit.
