Organizational Setting

The FAO India office promotes food security, nutrition, agriculture and rural development (FSNARD), sustainable natural resource management (NRM) and climate change mitigation and/or adaptation (CCM/A) in India, while assisting both Federal and State Governments and country stakeholders, development partners with the strategic planning and implementation of their assistance to achieve sustainable development, climate resilient agriculture, growth, poverty alleviation, food security and nutrition goals that lead to more efficient, sustainable, inclusive and resilient agrifood systems. The FAO India office partners with governments, international financing institutions, national and international organizations, the private sector, research institutions, academia, and producer organizations to improve the quality and quantity of agrifood development. FAO India areas of work include support to strategic investment planning and policy, public and private investments, and innovative finance as well as the implementation of donor-funded projects. These are complemented by capacity development for donor-funded programmes that serve to share knowledge more widely and position FAO India as a trusted development partner among key stakeholders.

The office promotes a multidisciplinary working environment, which leads to strategy and business development, knowledge management, communication, and administration.


Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in India/Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) and guidance of the IT Specialist, the IT Project Assistant will support the design and development of a website and Management Information System (MIS), developing an Android mobile application to capture the field data, and performing other IT related tasks for FAO Projects


Technical Focus

• Design and develop an efficient and effective website with a Management Information System (MIS).
• Creating an Android mobile application for the projects to capture the field data.
• Assist end-users on IT-related issues.


Tasks and responsibilities

• Design and develop a website and MIS for the projects.
• Design and develop web pages to monitor the financial and physical progress of the different project.
• Creation of reports (as per different predefined formats and necessities) for the project.
• Develop a dashboard for ongoing project activities (financial and physical).
• Design and develop an M&E framework and synced with project activities.
• Generate timely reports through MIS for half-yearly and annual reports as per the requirements.
• Training, capacity building and enhancement of the end users.
• Maintain and update project websites.
• Resolve any issues related to website, database, MIS (physical and financial) and any other technical issues.
• Develop an Android mobile application for the projects to capture the field data.
• Organize FAO virtual meetings, trainings, webinars etc. with various Government departments and other stakeholders.
• Providing technical assistance and support to end-users regarding software, hardware, network, and other IT-related issues. This may involve troubleshooting problems, resolving technical issues, and providing guidance on using IT resources effectively.
• Undertake any other duties as assigned by FAO Representative in India


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
• At least two years of experience in website and database design.
• Familiarity with mobile app development platforms such as Android Studio (for Android apps) and at least two years of experience in mobile app development.
• Working knowledge of the English language.
• National of India.

Technical/Functional Skills

• Strong proficiency in ASP.NET, C#, SQL, and web development technologies.
• Experience in designing, optimizing, and administrating databases.
• Knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery, with a focus on building responsive and user-friendly interfaces.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and Agile methodologies, with experience working in collaborative development environments.
• Ability to generate required reports from MIS.
• Familiarity with mobile app development platforms such as Android Studio (for Android apps).
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for mobile app development, such as Java or Kotlin for Android.
• Experience in integrating website and mobile apps with web services and APIs to fetch data from external sources, such as databases or third-party APIs. Understanding of RESTful APIs and JSON/XML data formats.
• Ability to troubleshoot and debug issues in mobile applications, including performance issues, crashes, and compatibility problems across different devices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
• Good command of the English language, including oral, written and presentation skills.
• Ability to handle stress and meet deadlines.
• Experience working with UN agencies and familiarity with UN rules and regulations is an asset.
• Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams is essential.
