Background Information - Job-specific

The UNOPS Hub in Amman implements projects on behalf of UN agencies and bilateral donors and in close coordination with the Government and authorities and multiple NGOs and civil society organizations in a variety of sectors and areas (human rights, constitutional support, electoral support, health, private sector development, water, and local area development). The functional objective of UNOPS Hub in Amman is to deliver its projects in an efficient and effective manner and in line with the principles, rules and regulations of UNOPS, so as to achieve the outcomes sought by the clients.

The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Monitor on daily basis the situation in the refugee camps as related to the project activities (school cleaning & maintenance services, warden school attendance and Syrian assistant teachers attendance);
  • Monitor the work of the contractors and Cash-for-Work beneficiaries as related to the project.
  • Support implementation of UNOPS activities as related to the Cash-for-Work component of the project.
  • Supervise the school cleaning services and maintenance services of the schools in the refugee camps;
  • Liaise with field based staff from UNICEF and UNDSS;
  • Foster positive relationship with the concerned partenrs in the refugee camps, including the Syrian Refugee Affairs Directorate, UNICEF, UNHCR, Principals of UNICEF Schools and NGOs.
  • Prepare a weekly project report in English to the Project Manager on the status of the school cleaning and maintenance services, including identified risks and challenges;
  • Provide daily updates to the project personnel regarding the services provided in the camps under the project.
  • Liaise with the school principals and senior warden supervisors on the attendance records for the Cash-for-Work beneficiaries under the project.
  • Coordinate with the Project Assistant on work related tasks and activities.
  • Perform other project tasks, as directed.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

  • University Degree (BA) in Management, Business Administration or other relevant field or secondary education with relevant experience in lieu.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience;
  • Excellent knowledge of IT, in particular MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint;
  • Experience in drafting reports is desirable;
  • Experience in managing and organizing events including excellent organization skills, ability to meet tight deadlines, accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Knowledge and previous experience of post-conflict/refugee contexts is an asset;
  • Previous knowledge of the UN system is desirable;
  • Excellent oral communication and writing skills in both Arabic and English.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Previous experience in refugee camps in desirable.
