Driver On-Duty 
Duty Station [Ninawa and Erbil] 
 
We are looking for a qualified driver on-duty to driver DRC staff safely to their destinations including airport pickups and trips outside of Erbil. The driver on-duty at DRC’s disposal 8 hours per day / 40 hours per week including weekends, holidays, evenings & overnights (unless otherwise instructed by line manager in exceptional cases and in case of temporarily covering the colleague who is on leave) – as per the schedule provided by the manager. 
 
 
Who are we?  
Danish Refugee Council is a leading protection agency pursuing our mandate to protect and promote durable solutions to displacement-affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), DRC apply a regional approach with operational presence in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Iraq.  
Present in Iraq since 2003, DRC is today operational in the Kurdish governorates, in and around Baghdad and in several South-Central governorates. Focused both on the influx of Syrian refugees and the current IDP crisis, DRC is providing assistance in a range of sectors including Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Protection, Livelihoods, Emergency Response (including food security, cash, and NFIs), WASH, Shelter and Mine Action. The Iraq programme presently employs some 450 national staff and 45 international staff, and is growing to meet new, emerging needs associated with ongoing and recent conflict in multiple locations.  
 
 
About the job 
The Driver On-Duty is required to drive DRC vehicle during non-working days and hours (week-ends, holidays, evenings, overnight). 
 
 
Reporting lines 
  • Reports to: Fleet Management Officer  
 
 
Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Drive DRC staff safely to their respective destinations in DRC passenger car, at their request or as per request by line manager, including airport pickups and trips outside of Erbil.  
  • To be at DRC’s disposal 8 hours per day / 40 hours per week including weekends, holidays, evenings & overnights (unless otherwise instructed by line manager in exceptional cases and in case of temporarily covering the colleague who is on leave) – as per the schedule provided by the manager on a weekly basis.
  • To ensure the car is always at minimum half a tank and to re-fuel when necessary, in coordination with the line manager.
  • To ensure the cars are in a clean condition on a daily basis.
  • To perform general check up on the cars (engine oil, brake oil, tyre pressure, wiper fluid, radiator fluid, safety standard kit, repair standard kit) to make sure the car is road worthy prior to starting the shift.  
  • Implement duties in line with the DRC Code of Conduct and represent DRC in a professional manner.  
  • Complete DRC vehicle logbook for each trip.
  • Inform line manager in case of any detected damages or defects on the car.
  • In case of emergency or accident, inform line manager and Safety staff. \
  • Refuel the car as per instruction from line manager;
  • Inspect the vehicle, the vehicle tags, to identify maintenance needs and report to line manager;
  • Regularly check the fuel gauge and service tag and inform the line manager and seek for instruction.

  • Ensure that passengers are wearing their seatbelts

  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Iraq programme Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Code of Conduct.
  • Cover the colleague/driver who is on leave;  
 
About you 
Essential attributes: 
Essential qualifications:  
  • Up to date full Driving Licence \
  • Valid ID (or passport)
  • Shall pass DRC driving test \
  • Physically fit for to conduct the driving duties, including changing tyre or doing minor repairs, if needed.
  • Mobile phone using skills 
 
 
Essential experience: 
  • 5 years of experience as driver or driving instructor (passenger vehicles);
  • Must be familiar with the traffic regulations;
  • Valid driving license.
  • Good communication skills (reading, writing, speaking).  
  • Fluency in Kurdish, English and Arabic.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player.
  • Willingness to work in field, remote areas, when needed.
  • Experience in driving both manual and automatic vehicles; \
  • Patient, with a good understanding of safety measures; \
  • Basic fleet management skills such as completing the vehicle logbooks  
 
Preferred attributes 
a) Preferred qualifications: 
  • Previous fleet management experience, such as fuel reports and vehicle maintenance reports;
  • Technical expertise in vehicle repairs and maintenance;
  • First aid training
  • Offensive driving training  
 
b) Preferred experience: 
  • Experience of working with UN or Non-Governmental Organisations.
  • Understanding of gender, protection and human rights.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of safety and security measures

We offer 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract until 28-February-2018, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from 10-September-2017.
