The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

The Expert Deployment /NORCAP department (ED/N) works with international, regional and national partners to strengthen their capacity to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from crisis. We do this by developing partnerships to promote more effective action and by deploying expert personnel in i.e. protection, gender, needs assessments, climate services, human rights, democracy and peace building, cash and markets. At any given time, around 250 of our experts are deployed to more than 60 countries. Over the last 25 years, ED/N has developed partnerships with more than 40 organisations worldwide. We receive funding from a variety of donors including the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ECHO, SIDA, OFDA and UN agencies.

ED/N’s Strategy, Information and Support (SIS) section is responsible for developing department strategy, budget and action plans – and for coordinating and reporting on results. SIS leads finance processes across the department, including monitoring of financial results, managing accounts and budgeting process.

 

Job description

Providing financial advice, guidance and support in the development of new projects and applications

Maintaining overall budget control and monitor cash flows in the department

Financial budgeting, analysis, reporting and financial control. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring of financial results, managing accounts and budgeting processes

Providing regular budget control and monitor cash flows in the department

Implement NRC's anti-corruption policy

Corrections and final book keeping of ED/N's projects

 

Qualifications

Minimum three (3) years’ experience as finance manager or controller

Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities

Solid knowledge of computer software and modern accounting systems

Demonstrated ability to work effectively

Fluency in English, both written and verbal

 

Personal qualities

Ability to work in a collaborative manner with team members and with multiple stakeholders

A pedagogical mind-set and willingness to convey financial knowledge for non-economists

A keen interest in the humanitarian and development sector

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Duty station: Head Office, Oslo
