DDG is looking for an international Information Management Trainee to assist in the development of technological solutions and tools in order to manage data collection, analysis and processing within the Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) program in DDG areas of operations.

 

Background

Danish Demining Group (DDG) is the Humanitarian Mine Action department of Danish Refugee Council (DRC); a humanitarian INGO providing support to displaced and conflict-affected populations in more than 35 countries.

DRC/DDG has been operating in Myanmar since 2008, focusing on the protection of populations displaced by the conflict in the Rakhine, Kachin, Kayah and Northern Shan States. Mine Risk Education (MRE) and Victim Assistance (VA) activities have been implemented since 2012 in Kachin, Northern Shan and Kayah States. In 2017, DDG has conducted Non-Technical Surveys (NTS) in Kayah as well and expects to enlarge the NTS to include the Shan State. The MRE projects aim to increase the safety and security of IDPs and local communities in Kachin, Kayah and Shan States through increased awareness and knowledge of risks from explosive remnants of war (ERW), namely unexploded ordnance (UXO) and landmines.

 

About the Job

The Information Management Trainee will be part of the DRC-DDG HMA team and works under direct guidance and supervision of DDG Deputy Programme Manager. She/he will be based in Yangon with occasional travel to DRC-DDG field offices in Myanmar.

 

Responsibilities will include, but not necessarily limited, to the following:

  • The Information Management Trainee provides technical expertise in information management to the DDG team and work closely together with the Deputy Programme Manager and the Project Managers;
  • Develop, establish and maintain of databases and information management (IM) tools for Mine Action related activities (Mine Risk Education, Non-Technical Survey and Victim Assistance);
  • Conduct quality control of data entry from field bases in coordination with the Project Managers and the Deputy Programme Manager, and the M&E support teams;
  • Carry out data analysis that will inform the planning and prioritization of the DDG Mine Action Programme;
  • Prepare weekly and/or monthly reports for internal and external use, as well as design and produce thematic maps;
  • Support in the provision of guidance and training to DDG HMA teams on the use of the data collection tools, IM and GIS systems;
  • In coordination with the Deputy Programme Manager and the Project Managers, the Information Management Trainee will contribute to the successful implementation of the standard operating procedures for information management;
  • Keep the casualty database updated with all former and new casualty data and provide internal reports as required;
  • Perform any other relevant tasks as requested by the line manager.
 

Education/qualifications:

  • Advanced University Degree (Master Degree or equivalent), preferably in Geography, GIS or IT;
  • Knowledge and experience in Information Management systems and GIS software;
  • Excellent IT skills;
  • Excellent English language skills (spoken and written).

Conditions

Duty station: Yangon with occasional travels to DRC/DDG field Operations. Yangon can be considered as a ‘family duty station’ but applicants must be prepared to live and work in an unstable security environment with limited recreational and social facilities when working in field locations.

 

Contracet: 12 months with a possibility for extension, subject to funding and performance. Salary and conditions in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Expatriates and Appendix 11 as posted at www.drc.dk under Vacancies grade. This position offers five weeks of paid annual leave per annum.

 

Expected date of deployment in Myanmar:  8th February 2018. Signature of the contract is subject to funding availability.
