NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within Shelter, Education, Food security, Legal Assistance, Camp Management Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sectors

Our Ideal Candidate:
We are seeking a motivated professional individual to join our Kyangwali operations immediately. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of experience of working in a humanitarian/ recovery context or equivalent, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Construction/Water or relevant studies.
We are particularly looking for an individual who is able to support the day to day implementation of the Shelter/WASH related projects delivered by NRC and its partners in a very limited time frame.

Job description

Generic responsibilities
• Participate in the design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluating of WASH and Shelter activities, including but not limited to construction of latrines, drainage, shelter and hygiene promotion
• Participate in drafting proposals for WASH and Shelter activities, including the technical descriptions and the budgets associated with them
• Participate in gathering and compilation of project information (reports, assessments, baseline, monitoring and evaluation)
• Ensure community participation in all WASH and Shelter activities including conducting community training and awareness promotion on hygiene
• Coordinate the construction project activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
• Ensure adherence to NRC policies and donor requirements
• Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
• Break down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly implementation plans
• Coordinate with relevant partners
• Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
• Supervise, train and develop team
• Prepare periodic progress reports and other documents as required
• Investigate and facilitate introduction of new technology, methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities

Specific responsibilities
These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.
1. Coordination of construction activities being carried out by NRC in Kyangwali.
2. Ensuring all project activities are in accordance with budgetary constraints and being implemented on schedule.
3. Assisting in planning for project implementation including technical activity, financial and procurement planning.
4. Assisting in the development and design of new construction projects.
5. Participation in tendering and bid analysis for contracts for service delivery and materials.
6. Preparation of periodic reports on the construction activities, including documentation of final hand over and closure of projects.
7. Participation in NRC construction quality assurance and report validation.
8. Investigating and facilitating introduction of new technologies and approaches for shelter provision.
9. Represent NRC at relevant theme cluster and other coordination meetings.

Qualifications

• Experience from working as a WASH and/or Shelter Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
• Civil, water Engineering Background
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal

Education field

  • Engineering sciences & technology

Education level

  • Academy college / University

Personal qualities

• Ability to speak Swahili or any of the local languages of the beneficiaries
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and deliver quality results
• Knowledge of the local context
