The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Purpose of the Job:
The Information, counselling and legal assistance (ICLA) Technical Assistant- database position is to perform daily data entry, regularly monitor of data and database, keep confidentiality of all information and collect, track data and provide feedback to legal section as well as prepare Monthly, thematic reports. The following is a brief description of the role.

Job description

Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines;
Assist a range of support with the implementation of the CC portfolio according to plan of action;
Implements independently procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated;
Responsible for organizing and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards;
Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, in order to be most effective in supporting the team;
Use initiative in day to day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work;
Prepare and develop status reports as required by management;
Ensure proper filing of documents and
Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise.

Specific responsibilities
Perform daily data entry of the collected documents
Regularly monitor and administer received data collected by the program staff (ICLA, Shelter and Education)
Ensure data quality through implementing data management controls and procedures
Highly respect the anonymity of beneficiaries approaching NRC and the confidentiality of information received from the beneficiaries.
Communicate and coordinate data validation with a variety of information providers.
Prepare quantitative reports and printouts on a regular basis and as required
Contribute to preparation of monthly reports, thematic reports, and correspondence with government officials and international organizations;
Contribute to database design and update processes
Provide regular advice on modifying databases to meet the information needs of project managers and improve the data processing and reporting capacity
Provide basic training in database use and update for other staff
Prepare, maintain, and update files (electronic and hard copy)
Translate legal cases, notes and documents to and from English while needed
Provide database trainings for the interns.
Any other tasks as required.

Qualifications

University degree in Computer Science preferably with specialization in Information Systems.
At least 2 years of work experience in the relevant area. Considerable work experience with international and national NGOs in the database system will
Relevant work experience in data entry and data management
Good knowledge of database design, maintenance and administration
Good understanding of database concepts
Good knowledge of MS Excel and MS Access
Good command of English and national languages both written and spoken
Experience in translation from English to Dari, Pashto and vice versa is preferred
