Humanitarian Analyst

About the job

The overall objective for DRC in Turkey is the protection of people’s rights and promotion of durable solutions for displacement affected populations based on humanitarian principles and human rights. More immediate objectives focus on protection of rights and support of livelihoods as well as a broader focus on social cohesion between refugees and hosts. DRC works with stakeholders, duty bearers and beneficiaries in accomplishing these objectives.

DRC is implementing an ECHO grant which requires the production  of high-quality, evidence-based analysis and reporting  of displacement trends and protection issues to strengthen the knowledge base for protection programming and advocacy activities by DRC and its partners. This position, based in DRC’s head office in Hatay, will have day-to-day responsibility for research design as well as coordination, collection and analysis of information.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have University degree or higher education relevant to law, statistics, social sciences, or related field;

Experience and technical competencies:

At least 3 years of proven international experience in field-based protection monitoring experience in humanitarian settings

You should also have:

• Excellent analytical and report writing skills;
• Experience in and knowledge of research design and roll-out;
• Knowledge of online data reporting systems, and associated data protection and reporting systems;
• Strong organisation skills;
• Proven experience in training including development of training materials;  
• Ability to develop good insight and understanding of the conflict, the human rights situation and the political environment;
• Fluency in English both written and verbal (knowledge of Turkish or Arabic an advantage).
• Above average computer literacy.

  Ideally, you also have

Strategic vision

In consultation with the HoP, the Protection Coordinator and field teams and key external stakeholders/duty bearers the Humanitarian Analyst will propose topics for evidence based reports/briefing papers. More specifically She/he will:

• Lead the research and analysis process across the Livelihood, Protection and other DRC sectors;
• Through the production of evidence-based reporting, briefing and other papers, improve DRC programmes, inform  advocacy priorities and establish DRC as the go-to organisation for protection and migration information;
• Lead protectıon service mappıng and ensure their regular update;
• Lead rapıd and detailed joınt assessments to analyse protectıon ıssues;
• Develop tools and guidelines to undertake assessments, conduct focus group discussions and individual ıntervıews, defıne methodology, determıne sample sıze and tımelınes and traın DRC and partner protectıon teams to execute data collectıon exercıses;
• Present reports ınternally and externally adhering to information sharıng protocols;
• Define the most appropriate methodology and plan to access and collect relevant information;
• Collect and process information with support from DRC field staff and implementing partners.

   

  Mixed Migration Reporting

• Based on input from Mixed Migration partners support the Senior Research officer to consolidate regular mixed migration reports and produce further research.

  Support to field bases on protection monitoring.

• Capacity build programme staff and partners;

 

• Regularly travel to field sites to support activities and provide technical support to field staff.

  Input to DRC protection strategy

• Based on information collected from Mixed Migration reports and other sources propose adjustments or additions to DRC strategies.

  Coordination & Representation

• Coordınate wıth protectıon workıng groups to plan and execute joınt assessment and research;
• Coordinate topics with partners and case management / protection working groups;
• Promote relations and coordination of humanitarian analysis with other humanitarian actors, donors, UN, and civil authorities;
• Coordinate with other DRC country offices regarding Humanitarian Analysis to harmonize approaches and monitoring reports;

 

• Attend the Protection Working Group and sub-groups along with the Protection Managers/ Coordinator as required;
• Provide briefings on findings, recommendations and trends to staff and stakeholders.

Additional Duties:

Any other duties as directed by the Protection Coordinator, Head of Program, or Country Director.

Languages:

• English  (fluent)

Lead in the development of DRC Turkey’s advocacy strategy and setup the Protection advocacy plan.
