ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The World Food Programme (WFP) is   the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. The Regional Bureau based in Nairobi, Kenya provides strategic guidance, policy/technical support and direction to WFP operations and activities in nine countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan and Uganda.

We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under the WFP [[Evaluation Unit ]] of the [[Programme ]]. The position will be based at our Regional Bureau for East and Central Africa in Nairobi,Kenya . The Internship will be for an initial period of [[5 months ]] months starting from [[1st November 2018]].

The selected candidate, under the direct supervision of the Regional Evaluation Officer , providing support and oversight to the country offices that are currently engaging in decentralized evaluations . He/She will ensure that WFP-supported evaluations are designed and implemented to established UNquality standards and in compliance with the decentralized Evaluation Quality Assuarnace System , and the results are disseminated in a timely fashion to stakeholders in order to improve programme performance and contribute to wider learning.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled and have attended University courses in the last 12 months inclusive of having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 6 months’ [[Sociology , Social Development , Development Economics , Food Security, Environment or other relevant field ]];
  • Excellent knowledge of working with datasets and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point);
  • Fluent in English ; working knowledge of a second official UN language preferably French is an advantage
  • [[Strong writing skills in English]]
  • Research Experience ; Including literature review - collecting and analysisng quantitative and qualitative data using a variety of tools and approaches

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

The selected candidate will report to the Regional Evaluation Officer , providing support and and oversight to the evaluation function in nine WFP country Offices.

Key duties include:

  • Build and maintain an understanding of the current key trends in evaluation methods among UN and other development /humanitarian agencies
  • Review and edit draft evaluation report
  • Prepare draft evaluation briefs , videos and inforgraphics for the diseminiation of evaluation evidence
  • Support the organization , implementation and follow up of ke Regional Bureau Nairobi Evaluation related events
  • Draft minutes and meeting briefs , and support to ensure that action points are inplemented accordingly
  • Perform otherduties as required.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT

  • Briefs, videos and inforgraphics of evaluation evidence
  • Summaries of Evaluation evidence
  • Map of existing evaluation evidence

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment. 
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • Depending on the duty station of assignment, WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education;
