JOB PURPOSE

To perform specialised communications activities, and contribute to the development of communications products/services and campaigns that maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP and supports fundraising activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Coordinate and deliver specialised communications processes and activities, in order to support the timely preparation and execution of communications campaigns for target audiences.
2. Liaise with the media and other key constituents, providing and facilitating a regular flow of information and messages on WFP activities, policies and operations to key audiences.
3. Coordinate and make recommendations on event planning, ensuring appropriate services, equipment, plans and suitable materials are made available. 
4. Provide substantive, specialised support, coordination and recommendations that ensure the efficient production of video/film, photographic and radio projects.
5. Monitor traditional and social media, and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communication activities and strategies.
6. Prepare content for use on traditional and social media platforms and networks to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
7. Research, recommend and assist with the development of content used on traditional and social media platforms and networks to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring cost effectiveness and consistency with corporate messages.
8. Promote and provide advice on communications guidelines, to ensure that core procedures and policies are followed.
9. Ensure that relevant information is collected, and maintained in appropriate files and databases, by self or others, so that accurate records are available for others to access.
10. Manage a broad range of day-to-day questions and information requests from internal and external stakeholders, using specialised knowledge to respond to these in a timely, appropriate manner.
11. Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in order to keep abreast of relevant information, and deliver aligned, coherent Communications processes and activities.
12. Contribute to the development of communications methods and processes in order to improve their effectiveness and increase awareness of WFP’s work to the media and stakeholders.

SPECIFIC JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Senior Communications Associate will play a key role in launching and managing the social media channels for the WFP Yemen country office. This includes writing, editing, and posting content across platforms and managing the editorial calendar. This role also focuses on defining the short and long-term strategy for the channels & cultivating social communities based on trust and high-quality content.

Social Media Platform Strategy

  • Serve as strategist for the Country Office social media channels;
  • Determine areas of opportunity, identify trends and champion new ideas around creative formats, tools and tracking;
  • Determine target audience and define crisp, efficient messaging for that audience;
  • Create new community management and content curation systems (i.e. social media database, automated responses);

Social Media Content Management

  • Create engaging, platform-specific high-impact content deliverables including copy, photos and multimedia content;
  • Analyse and understand social media metrics to provide actionable insights and make content creation and strategy decisions;
  • Collaborate with communications team members on content ideas with the aim of creating dynamic, impactful and differentiated content;
  • Create and update social media tool kits and databases (i.e. Trello, Social Media messaging database);

Community Management

  • Implementing strategies to encourage engagement and grow our communities;
  • Manage social media channels, publish content daily and be the voice of the brand.
  • Look for key brand-building moments to engage audiences and create authentic and positive interaction with our followers.
  • Support the development of a strategy to engage with social media influencers, local celebrities, activities, who can promote awareness of WFP’s work within Yemen
  • Help evolve WFP’s community response protocols, including escalating any issues in a timely fashion
  • Social Media Crisis Management – working with the HQ social media team and regional bureau social media team to ensure crises are properly managed and contained.

Media monitoring

  • Monitor social media (Arabic and English) for content related to WFP’s activities in Yemen and provide swift, regular analysis on new trends and any reputational threats;

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.


Experience: Six or more years of progressively responsible support work experience in general administrative work or other related field.
