The incumbent of this post is responsible to the Field Family Health Officer and provides technical guidance to all medical staff on maternal health.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent:

•   Is responsible for examination, management and follow-up of high-risk pregnancies and other women with special needs referred to him/her by the Health Centre Medical Officers and provides feedback to the referring Medical Officers on management plans with respect to such women;

•   Examines and treats all women with gynaecological and/or obstetrical problems referred to him/her by the Health Centre Medical Officers according to a rotating work schedule prepared by the Chief, Field Health Programme and provides feedback on the outcome of care;

•   Maintains close coordination with hospitals in order to ensure feedback on high-risk pregnancies referred for delivery or special care;

•   Plans and directs the in-service training of medical and nursing staff on safe reproductive health practices and insertion of intra-uterine devices;

•   Participates in the organization and conduct of health services research relevant to maternal health;

•   Performs such other duties as may be required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

•   A university degree in medicine from a recognized university including an internship of at least twelve-month duration;

•   An advanced degree in obstetrics and gynaecology specialty;

•   A valid license to practice medicine as obstetrics and Gynecology in Jordan

•   A minimum of six years' experience in gynaecology and obstetrics after obtaining the university degree in medicine.

•   Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

•      The incumbent is required to travel frequently in the field and area of operations;

•      Possession of a valid driving license in the country of duty station.

•• Other Information:

This vacancy is an area staff post and open for local staff residing in the duty station of the post; candidates applying from outside the duty station are eligible for appointment if they have a valid work permit. The Agency cannot support for the issuance of the residency / work permit for the selected candidate, and will not provide coverage for relocation costs.•

EQUIVALENCY:

When the minimum requirements are not fully met, the concerned Director may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.

NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.
