We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional for the position of Superintendent Assistant in the Integrated Development Program (IDP) to assist in managing the human resources, equipment and budget assigned to CIMMYT’s field research station, with an aim to satisfy the needs of research programs.

The position is based at CIMMYT’s experimental station in Batan, Texcoco, State of Mexico, located 45 km northeast of Mexico City. 

Specific duties:

  • Manage field personnel to coordinate activities in each crop cycle following instructions received from research programs.
  • Make regular supervision rounds to different areas to make sure that field personnel activities follow instructions and procedures.
  • Support to recruit temporary and permanent staff and oversee the hiring process to meet the needs of research programs and of the station’s operational procedures.
  • Make sure that accounting and administrative activities are correct and timely to comply with programs and legal dispositions.
  • Supervise expenses to ensure adequate and timely use of the annual budget allocated to the research station.
  • Schedule services and maintenance for the research station’s equipment, facilities and furniture to keep resources in optimal conditions.
  • Maintain regular contact with research personnel to carry out effectively the activities that they commission for their projects. Assist in supervising activities of staff in research units.
  • Review all station reports to verify information accuracy and timeliness, and make sure relevant areas receive them.
  • Support the necessary agronomic adjustments in experimental plots to preserve them and keep them in good condition for research.
  • Coordinate activities with security personnel to guarantee staff safety and to protect the station’s equipment, machinery and facilities.
  • Other support tasks as required by supervisor.

Required academic qualifications, skills and attitudes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering or Agronomy
  • Relevant professional experience of 3 years in the field.
  • Thorough knowledge of field work and use of specialized equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of administrative and/or operating protocols and procedures to offer research support.
  • Basic management skills and experience
  • Intermediate-Advanced level of English. English will be tested and candidate should score a minimum of B2 on CEFR.
  • Competent user of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • The position requires being suitable for work in field conditions, and compliance with established standards.
  • The selected candidate must be a responsible, punctual, orderly and honest person.
  • The candidate must exhibit sense of urgency and commitment to his/her responsibilities and deadlines.
