Passive Components Engineer in the Components Section, Data Systems, Microelectronics & Component Technology Division, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering & Quality.
The Section provides functional support to ESA projects and carries out technological research (R&D) in the field of electrical, elctronic and electromechanical (EEE) components, with a strong focus on technologies and processes, development and reliability as well as on ground qualification activities.
You will provide support in the areas of
- passive acomponents such as capacitors, resistors, inductors, connectors, transformers, wires and cables, cable assemblies, fuses, switches, relays, piezo-electric devices and thermistors,
- RF passive devices such as circulators and isolators, attenuators, loads, couplers and dividers.
Reporting to the Head of Section and within the technical fields described above, your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
- providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies regarding passive components throughout all project phases;
- participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and evaluation of procurement proposals;
- identifying critical development problems, assisting in their resoltuion;
- contributing to the definition of technology development requirements and work plans for the Agency's technology programmes;
- defining, initiating and managing R&D activities covering long-/-short-term needs;
- fostering new application areas for multidisciplinary activities, placing emphasis on innovative concepts, cutting-edge technologies and system architectures
- supporting technology domain-related standardisation activities (ESCC, ECSS);
- initiating and monitoring laboratory activities including preparation of test plans and reviews of test reports, hands-on laboratory activities as required;
- monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends, maintaining state-of-the-art expertise;
- contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency.
Duties may also include supporting other activities within your field of competence.
A Master's degree or equivalent qualification in electronics engineering or a related subject is required.
Experience in R&D, laboratory investigations, manufacturing processes, design and development or testing of passive components is required.
Experience in supporting ESA projects is an asset.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
