Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Deputy Representative | Program, or his designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:

  • Coordination: in support of the facility, establish and maintain information management networks to facilitate leaning and development for Sudanese officials and practitioners; coordinate curriculum content, participants, trainers and potential and confirmed partner institutions; work with participants and trainers to ensure smooth utilization of information tools, services and (alongside IT staff) delivery technologies; engage with counterparts in government and institutions to ensure that information activities are coordinated and consistent; provide training and expertise on the use and development of information management tools and platforms to facility staff and partners;
  • Data Management: manage the creation of curriculum content;
    design, develop and manage databases, spreadsheets and other data tools relevant to required coordination; understand, document, and monitor results and delivery of facility activity;
  • Data Analysis: organize, design and carry out the evaluation and analysis of facility delivery and operation through monitoring and meaningful statistical techniques;
  • Assessment Analysis: support assessment and needs analysis activities; provide advice on assessment design to ensure data quality; manage platforms and tools that support data collection and analysis;
  • Visualization: as required, produce and update information products such as reports, charts and infographics by turning data into graphical products to convey messages and a storyline; enhance curriculum materials in similar ways as required; develop advocacy materials as required;
  • When working with (including supervising) national personnel or (non-)governmental counterparts, set aside dedicated time for capacity development, through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the-job training;
  • Perform other related duties as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UNV mandate within their assignment and promote volunteerism through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate part of their time to the following suggested activities:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant publications, developing networks with volunteering organisations and taking an active part in UNV activities (for example, in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country, including humanitarian activities by both host and displaced populations;
  • Build relationships with a wide range of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to support and/or participate in community-driven voluntary activities with humanitarian impact; explore opportunities to empower volunteer organisation and civil society in order to enhance their participation in humanitarian planning and implementation;
  • Provide annual and end-of-assignment reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Encourage, mobilize and support co-workers and fellow UN Volunteers to better understand the connections between the UNV programme’s engagement within OCHA and humanitarian action;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever possible.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • An advanced university degree (i.e. Master's degree or equivalent) in Information Management, Business Management, Information Systems, Communications, Statistics, Social Sciences or other relevant field is required in combination with qualifying relevant professional experience in managing or establishing virtual platform, data information management, big data analysis, etc. may be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree;
Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:
  • Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in Information Management, Business Management, Information Systems, Communications, Statistics, Social Sciences, Development or in related field is required; relevant experience managing information in a development context at the international level for UNDP, a UN agency or a cluster is desirable;
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Arabic(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
Area of expertise: Database design, administration and maintenance Area of expertise details:
  • Strong overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Teams, Zoom, etc.), information system platforms, and office technology equipment (VTC, audio and visual);
  • Ability to perform duties under stress and in insecure, isolated and potentially hostile environments;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Spoken and written fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic desirable; knowledge of another official United Nations language or local language is an advantage;
  • Have affinity with or interest in development, post-conflict or complex contexts, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
