Background & Rationale

UNICEF works day-in day-out in the world’s toughest places to reach the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children. Delivering results for children and young people is our driving force.

All over the world, in 2020, UNICEF adapted its work plan, facing the pandemic of the novel coronavirus. In Brazil, we are working to support country’s efforts to reduce the transmission of the virus and, therefore, curb the immediate impacts on the most vulnerable. We are also investing to mitigate the impact of the containment measures by supporting the continuity of social services for children, adolescents and families.

UNICEF is leveraging its existing partnerships and its engagement platforms to achieve results at scale, focusing on the most vulnerable communities. These include strengthening our engagement with private sector partners to mobilize resources to support the most vulnerable children and their families.

As part of UNICEF Brazil’s COVID Reponse Plan, Programme and Private Sector Fundraising areas have developed parternships with private companies and with local partners to help contain the COVID outbreak by discutributing health and hygiene supplies (including soap, hand-sanitizer, and masks), and providiving water and sanitation services (WASH) to people living in critical conditions.
